1993 Pontiac Grand Am GT 3.3 V6

Summary:

In my opinion, as sporty as you can get without buying a T-top Camaro or a Vette

Faults:

The only thing that was wrong with the car is the driver side window engine went out, but I snickered the dealer into fixing it before I bought it. I also heard a vibrating sound in the engine. After taking it to a friend of mine who is a top of the line mechanic, he found that the rubber piece under the engine mount was worn, allowing the engine mount to vibrate at odd times, such as on a straight flat road, yet when you hit a few potholes in a row you don't hear it.

General Comments:

This is my first car. As I was driving my parents 96 5.2 V8 Grand Cherokee Laredo to get used to driving, I found that after I got in the Grand Am GT with a 3.3 V6, that it had a lot more power to the punch. The Cherokee would take time to even pick up in RPMs, where the Grand AM would shoot up in RPMs and shift right away. Very responsive car, I'm very happy with it.

1993 Pontiac Grand Am SE 1.3 Liter, Quad OHC

Summary:

Used to rock, now it sucks, sucks bad

Faults:

This car was first a rental car from Budget.

Details are sketchy, but it might have been subject to flood damage and/or repainted because at 100,000 miles the paint began to flake and has only gotten worse with time.

Before I got the car, it was my brother's and the engine at been replaced at just over 100,000 miles.

Since I have had it, I've replaced the Alternator, and a coolant hose from the engine.

General Comments:

This was my first car and I don't have much to gauge it against.

It doesn't accelerate that fast, but does handle well when I slam the brakes to go around corners.

This spring, heating element blew, haven't used AC or Defrost since. Had to replace a hose that takes coolant from the engine, but that didn't fix the reek of anti-freeze that comes with driving the car.

I'm getting rid of it shortly.

1993 Pontiac Grand Am SE 3.3

Summary:

Worth the dollar

Faults:

The motor on my car still runs great. I have had a few problems with my car such as my radiator blew and my transmission died on me. My has ran very well since the day I bought the car. I have had the oil changed every three thousand miles or before. The interior rattles very rough and my driver seat is broken. I have almost rebuilt this car myself and it runs great.

General Comments:

This car is one of the best I have bought.

This car runs with the best of them, I race almost everyday.

1993 Pontiac Grand Am GT 2.3L DOHC

Summary:

An unreliable beauty

Faults:

The alternator failed at 190000 kilometers on a long road trip.

The shift cable snapped at 191000 kilometers on the same road trip.

At 205000 kilometers the heater coil got so plugged up with dirt and dust that it stopped blowing any air out of the vents.

At 225000 kilometers the head cracked and needed to be replaced ($2100.00 Can).

At 225500 kilometers the exhaust system developed many holes and needed to be replaced.

At 226000 kilometers the engine overheats (with full oil and coolant levels), stalls when the vehicle is stopped and will not fire up again until the engine has reached an acceptable engine temperature.

General Comments:

This car is a piece of art. The sleek and attractive body style turns heads wherever I go.

When the car actually works, it's performance is outstanding.

It is very unfortunate that a car that looks as good as this one is so unreliable. The cost of repairs on this vehicle has already exceeded the used purchase price.
