1995 Pontiac Grand Am GT coupe

Summary:

If you want to throw away your money and be stranded somewhere, buy this car.

Faults:

In the first 1 1/2years I had the car the alternator went out 4 times. I had to get the car towed from numerous places because it just stopped working.

The transmission went out 2 1/2 years after I had the car.

The vehicle had the front and back brakes replaced twice.

The car also got towed when the starter went out.

The front speakers blew out a month after I got the car.

The car has had numerous batteries and belts.

The paint was faded really bad on the sides where the grooves are.

This past year the air conditioner went out and when I took it in the shop and to fix the problem would have cost over $600.

Shortly after this the car would not start unless you ran the engine while trying to start it. The car also dies sometimes at stop lights and signs.

The keys got stuck in the ignition at least 5 times and would sometimes not come out for a few days.

General Comments:

The car was the biggest waste of money. Luckily I had a warranty for three years.

The final trade in for the car was $1400. I payed probably 15,000 for the car not mentioning how much was put into fixing it.

The car was roomy and comfortable, but non reliable.

I would never buy a Pontiac again and would strongly recommend never to pay even a dime for this car.

The combination of symptoms you experienced makes me suspect this car may have been in a flood.

1995 Pontiac Grand Am GT 3.1

Summary:

Good price/performance ratio

Faults:

Had to replace the transmission at 100K miles due to severe grinding noise and replaced the alternator twice.

I really can't complain abou this car as it has faired well. Outside of normal maintenance i.e., brakes pads, new rotors, tires, etc I have not had to spend much money to maintain this high mileage car. Sure the door locks no longer work, and the passenger side window handle comes off, but for a car with 180K plus miles and 8 years old, it's not in show room condition.

I don't understand why everyone has so many problems with this car. I live in Alaska and have had nothing, but good things to say about this car. Handles great on the ice, heater is a dream, the air conditioner is wonderful, the gas mileage is good, and it has been very inexpensive to repair. Maybe you are not taking proper care of the vehicle.

1995 Pontiac Grand Am SE Sedan 2.3L 16 V

Summary:

A good car, for a while

Faults:

My head gasket blew at 166000 km.

My power locks and cigarette lighter quit about a year and a half ago.

General Comments:

I loved the car, but the engine is worth more than the car is.

The head gasket was replaced and then the bottom end went two weeks later.

I think that the interior was very driver friendly.

My Power Locks and Cigar Lighter on my 95 Grand AM went too. It was just a fuse in my case.

Summary:

Take care of this car and it will take care of you

Faults:

I have had little problem's with this car. It has never left me stranded.

It doe's make some noise from under the car, which I think is coming from the front end. I have replaced the alternator, but this only because I changed the belt and tensioner first at 98,000 miles.

General Comments:

Great gas mileage on highway. Quick and very torkey... It takes a while to get use to the accelerator pedal. I have 115,000 miles now and still has lots of power. Try using 91 octane and you will feel even more pick-up.I use mostly 87 and it will not ping.89 octane doe's not seem to make any difference. It runs great on 91!
