1999 Pontiac Grand Am SE

Summary:

I Love my Grand Am

Faults:

The Window Motors have gone bad in 3 out of 4 windows.

The vent fan only works at 3 or above.

General Comments:

This car has a couple of minor problems with accessories, but nothing mechanical. It gets good gas mileage and still looks good. I would highly recommend the Grand Am to anyone. It is great for families of 1-4 people.

I've owned Grand Am's for 10 years and I love them, the style is great and they get great gas mileage.

1999 Pontiac Grand Am GT 6

Summary:

Nice looking, but beware!

Faults:

It's funny to see how so many people seem to be having the same problems.

My husband bought our 99 Pontiac Grand Am last year from a co-worker who sold it to us for $1500.00. I guess for the price we paid we couldn't complain. We knew going into it we were going to be spending some money.

We got it a tune up, and we needed 4 new tires, because the size that was on there was too big, and they were rubbing into the strut.

Everything seemed to be OK, and a couple months later we took it in for an oil change and found out there were 2 leaks. $800 later we got our car back.

Brings us to about a month ago; we had another oil change, new front brakes and caliper pin?, serpentine belt and pulley. As soon as I left the shop, the car was still making a weird noise. Came to find out it needed a new power steering hose and pump. Now the car is still leaking power steering, and after having it in the shop today, it needs a new rack. Yay me! I am hoping after we fix this the problems will calm down.

I love the look and drive of the car, but it's really putting a dent in our bank account.

I have the same radio issues with the volume and the crazy symbols in the warmer weather.

My mechanic says Grand Am's are normally good cars, maybe it's just 99, maybe they were slacking off, who knows? Hope this helps someone else out!

1999 Pontiac Grand Am GT SEDAN 3.6L V6 high output

Summary:

Worst vehicle I have ever owned

Faults:

My rotors have consistently needed replacement since I bought the vehicle in 2002 due to a horrible break system design which supplies uneven break pressure to the four calipers. Once every other year, I usually replace all four rotors. The interior lining along the windows have bubbled up or completely come loose. My ABS doesn't work. All of the warning lights in the cockpit go on at will for no reason. Not to mention the most annoying of all my problems with the vehicle is the turn signal "clicking" that never stops. Water gets stored in the reverse lights which causes them to short out. The hesitation of the acceleration when needed most has almost killed me a few times while trying to get out of sticky situations. All in all, the 1999 Grand Am GT Sedan is one of the worst cars I have owned. If you see one on the streets, get out of its way because it might not be able to stop thanks to its horrible design.

General Comments:

Get rid of this car if you own it.

1999 Pontiac Grand Am GT 4 door Sedan V6 4.1

Summary:

I will never buy a Grand Am again

Faults:

The signal lights will not work unless you hit the flashers first.

The fans have been fixed twice, the AC will not work on 1 nor 2.

The radio lights are out, all other dash lights work, but not the radio.

There is a scrubbing noise when braking, brake pads have been changed repeatedly and rotors replaced.

Intake manifold gasket fixed twice, fuel pump replaced, alternator replaced twice, fuel injectors replaced.

Water fills up the back lower lights when the car is washed, vinyl coming up like it is not glued behind door panels.

Whoever designed the cup holder must have never tried to use it, because if you have cup in holder, you cannot put car in park; it hits the cup. Car will rev up rpms on its on.

General Comments:

Car is still fast on take off, and as of right now full of power. It takes curves good. However there are always some mechanical problems.

There must be a serious problem with the design of the braking system, due to continuous replacement of pads.

There is something wrong with dash or wiring for the signal and radio lights to go out.

Fans or blowers are really a problem; always fixing them.

You never know when the next problem is coming, Not a trustworthy car.

You have a worn out resistor. That is why the AC won't work on 1 or 2. I had the same problem on my Mazda and it was about $130.
