1999 Pontiac Grand Am GT 3.4L V6

Summary:

A poor quality, fun to drive car

Faults:

The upholstery blistered up on both the drivers side and the passenger side doors.

Water leaks into the car in the rain.

The radio volume knob shorts out.

A clamp on a hose to the heater core broke very early on.

There is now a significant anti-freeze leak, which needs to be repaired.

The lettering came off the trunk within 6 months of ownership.

One of the driver's side tail lights continues to burn out (changed three times so far).

General Comments:

The car is fun to drive and I enjoy how it handles, but there are some serious quality issues.

The "A" pillar is quite large and obscures the view on both sides.

I've noticed many Grand Am's with the same tail light burned out, so there must be a design flaw.

I like the car, but I would never buy another one due to the poor reliability.

I must agree the Pontiac Grand AM is definately a fun car to drive with serious design issues. They must find way to redesign the tail lights so that they stop burning out. I always end up having to replace mine around every 3 months.

1999 Pontiac Grand Am SE 3.4 liter V6

Summary:

I won't buy another Grand Am (Dam Grand)

Faults:

Trim becomes unglued around the doors.

Alternator replaced at 73000 miles. $450.

Intake manifold gasket just replaced $550.

Water pump just replaced at 75000 miles $200.

Brakes squeak, grind, and are not responsive. Rotors go bad every year.

General Comments:

The handling is great and has good firm steering. The front end is a little too light feeling though, seems like the axle bounces around over bumps.

Reliability is not up to par with foreign cars such as Honda, Toyota, Nissan, or even Volkswagen.

The interior door trim becomes unglued in the summer heat, due to cheap manufacturing and not paying attention to detail.

I wish I could say the same about my GT. I have replaced the front rotors on my car at 10K and 55K miles. Just had to replace the wheel bearings on on the front 68K. This is a very expensive fix because of the ABS sensors. Now my fog lights will not turn off 69K. I thought the battery was down on the keyless entry, but that isn't the problem. Looks like I am having some serious electrical problems. The volume button on the radio doesn't work properly. What else can go wrong with this car?

1999 Pontiac Grand Am SE 3.4L V6

Summary:

A huge disappointment

Faults:

The valve intakes went at 100,000 kilometeres.

The fuel pump has been replaced three times.

The transmission shifts hard into second and third gear.

The on-board computer has been replaced twice.

The brake rotors have been replaced twice in the past two years.

The radio knob does not work properly, and the radio display does not work at all.

The power locks do not function, the power mirrors do not function, and the defrost in the back.

The body cladding has started to come off on all the doors.

The handle to adjust the seat for the driver has broken three times.

I am constantly replaced bulbs, in the back, in the front, and for the fog lights.

The door seals frequently let water enter the vehicle.

The wheel bearings have been replaced twice on the passenger side, and on the driver side once.

I frequently get random warning lights appearing on the dash (i.e low oil), without there being any problem.

General Comments:

This car is an absolute looker, preforms very well, however, if more time and effort had been put into the production of this vehicle, it would be a much better car.

1999 Pontiac Grand Am SE 3.6

Summary:

I think the car is great

Faults:

My brakes went out along with my serpentine belt, right after the warranty was up... go figure! I have also had to replace a blinker.

General Comments:

This car is really quick off the line, however; it has a slow top speed.

This car handles like a tank rollin' in tar.

The car is really easy to make look nice.
