1999 Pontiac Grand Am SE 3.4 V6

Summary:

This car is not worth the money

Faults:

The rotors have warped and have needed to be replaced about every 15,000 to 20,000 miles.

The power window motor has gone bad at 50,000 miles.

The turn signal regulator went bad at about 50,000 miles.

The resistor in the vent fan needed to be replaced at about 50,000 miles.

The automatic transmission will not shift down to first gear. We have not had this repaired yet.

The paint on the panel between the front and back windows is chipping and peeling.

The radio display would become jumbled on humid days. The only solution was to replace the radio.

General Comments:

When the car is in perfect working order, it is a nice car. It handles well, it's fast, and it has a great turning radius.

The numerous trips to the shop make the car more of a hassle than it's worth. Thank goodness we purchased the extended warranty for this car, because we have gotten our money's worth from it.

1999 Pontiac Grand Am SE 3.4 V6

Summary:

Not worth the time and effort required for the year and mileage

Faults:

My first headlamp blew out at 500 miles.

The passenger side taillight assembly melted resulting in shorted out bulbs around 15000 miles.

The battery died at 33000 miles. About 400 miles later the dealer said I needed an alternator as well.

At 36010 miles, I complained of squeals and coolant loss. Dealer said water and power steering pumps went bad along with the intake manifold gasket.

Now with 36853 miles the squealing has come back.

Starting to notice lights dimming at night when I let off the gas.

General Comments:

The car was leased by my mother from May 1999 to June 2002. When we went to turn it in, they offered us such a good deal to buy it out that I couldn't resist. My 89 XR7 has 120k on it and with the new baby we figured it would be a good purchase.

The vehicle has been to the dealer 3 times since I took over the car. They told me that alternator wasn't the cause of the first battery. They claim that they never would have let the car out of there without testing the alternator. As if an error on them was impossible.

My warranty has a 100 dollar deductible which is not bad when it comes down to it. I don't want to be paying 100 bucks every two weeks to fix it on top of my payments.

1999 Pontiac Grand Am GT V6 H.O. Ram Air

Faults:

I have read through all of the complaints about the 1999 Pontiac Grand AM. I have also had the same problems with my car. After contacting Pontiac and a Lawyer, I was advised that the consumer's best choice in getting these problems fixed is to either:

A: Get everyone who has had problems with their 1999 Pontiac Grand AM to call and complain. If enough people call, Pontiac will have to issue a recall. This is the number:1-800-200-2737.

B: Everyone must get together and file a Class Action Suit against Pontiac. If this goes through, Pontiac will have to either issue a recall or fix our problems. For more information, please contact me via e-mail at: ChaversDJ@earthlink.net.

1999 Pontiac Grand Am GT 3.4 H.O. V6

Summary:

A great car for suckers

Faults:

My Grand Am has recently been making a squeaking and grinding sound from the front end. I have heard this from many other Grand Am GT owners. Thinking that this was a problem with the brakes, I have have had the front brakes replaced. A few weeks later when having my car in for another, unrelated problem, I was talking to a GM mechanic about the squeaking. It turns out that the squeaking is being caused by the tires. GM knew about this and had replaced any body's tires who complained about such a noise. Gm did not find it necessary to tell other owners about this unless the problem arose. The real kick in the pants, is that GM will only replace the tires for no cost when the car has less than 60000 kilometers on it. My car having 75000 kilometers, it looks like I'm S.O.L.

General Comments:

I love my car, but my truly disappointed in GM.
