2001 Pontiac Grand Am SE 4 door 3.4 V6

Summary:

Avoid buying, and if you own it, trade it in before the cam shaft cracks!

Faults:

There is a major problems with the INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET in the 3.1/3.4 V6 engines built from 1995-2002; it is cheap design and leaks.

My first leak was at 35K, exterior oil leak showed on the driveway, second now, and it is going to be repaired this week. GM says that there is a fix for it, so I guess they know this problem is real, and I was told otherwise and I believed it too, but yesterday I found this site...

General Comments:

Car looks good, and when buying it I thought it would a good quality car and last long on the road; now I'm looking to trade it in.

2001 Pontiac Grand Am gt1

Summary:

Not worth $30000.00 at all

Faults:

The car was a bucket from week one. At first it was a tie rod end boot, then a water leak, then the rack and pinion, another water leak,2 sets of breaks, 20 more water leaks, hard start it would roll and roll had to give it gas, tick in the engine, very hard on gas 13mpg.

General Comments:

I have never been so disapointed in something. It looks great, but other than that it has nothing going for it.

2001 Pontiac Grand Am GT 3.4

Summary:

It's a cool car once you get used to it

Faults:

At 25 miles SES light came on, it was a bad gasket on the tank.

Then at 27000 miles I was stranded at work at 1AM because of the security system. It was kind of embarrassing because I drive one of the nicer cars at work and everyone was coming over to see what was going on.

Then at 33000 miles scraping noise coming from the front end, I thought it was the brakes, but I found out it was the tires so they replaced the front two free of charge:).

General Comments:

Being that the car is paid off I really love the car now and hope it will last me 200k miles.

Sometimes I do like to race my friends and peel out occasionally.

2001 Pontiac Grand Am SE 4 cylinder

Summary:

This car is a lemon

Faults:

This 2001 Pontiac Grand AM has been a nuisance to own. From day one there was a vibration when shifting in 1st and 2nd gear. The car also rolled backward when parked - while in gear. The 5-star dealership could not find anything wrong. Blaimed the noises on heat shields. The noises and rolling continued. Brought it in again and showed the techs the noises and rolling. they replaced the shifter assembly and blamed the noises on exhaust system. Still noisy - brought it in again - this time it was the air dam and brake lines. The fourth time, they found a GM bulletin that blamed the noise on gear rattling and performed the bulletin repair - Saturn transmission fluid was installed. The noise was reduced. Called GM - they directed me to try another dealer - did this. Found my power steering motor was gone - steered me to the bulletin and pretty much said there was nothing to do about the gear rattle. 2 months later, when in got cold (upstate NY) the fluid made it nearly impossible to shift - that is until the car heated up to 150 degrees or so... Brought it back in and had them put Dex tranny fluid back in. Of course the noise is worse than ever. Had an arbitration hearing on the car - GM pulled all the stops - flew in big lawyer with 3 GM managers. All said that the noise is normal. I should have stuck with Dodge. I owned my Colt for 9 years and never heard "gear rattles". Incentives and discounts don't mean a thing when you're stuck with a noisy, embarassing car that will be hard to sell...

General Comments:

Don't buy a GM unless you test drive it for several hours - get the car hot... Listen for noises. And if it starts making noises later on - your doomed.
