2001 Pontiac Grand Am GT-1 3.4 V6

Summary:

Great car

Faults:

The only major problem I had with my 2001 Grand Am in the 8 years that I have had was a coolant leak.

Other than that, the driver seat is wearing a little, but nothing too bad.

I have taken care of me car probably better than anyone, and because of that I haven't had any problems.

General Comments:

This is probably one of the best cars that I have owned, I have had my car since it had 6 miles on it, and it now has 185,000 miles on and I have had only one major problem.

So to you people that are saying that you are having all these problems, I just think that you aren't taking care of the car right. Of course I have had normal wear and tear on the car. I have changed the brakes 4 times in the whole time that I have had it, and 2 of those times it was my choice, not because I had to.

2001 Pontiac Grand Am GT 3.4

Faults:

The only thing I have had to replace are the brakes, and it has 113,000 miles on it.

I love it. It does 120 like nothing, and still has pedal left.

The stereo with its 100 amp amplifier is nice. Wowww.

The car has been a endless money trap

The (EGR) valve has been replaced many times at the dealership.

The service engine soon light stay lit. The dealership can never find the problem.

The handles well on the road when it can crank up.

The front driver's seat has worn down and leans permanently.

2001 Pontiac Grand Am GT 3.4L RamAir

Summary:

Nice car WITH warranty!!!

Faults:

Bought car from non-Pontiac dealership... was a trade-in, well-maintained...authenticated paperwork showed dealership salesman was previous owner.

No warranty as it was 2001 bought in 2007, but at only 48k miles I didn't see need for it... but salesman conned me into getting a super after-market warranty.

Thank goodness.

3 months and 4,000 miles later the head gasket went without warning. I turned my car on and was enveloped in cloud of white smoke. Fortunately I had that warranty and the $1,500 repair was free for me (minus the $100 "diagnostic fee"...come on! I know what's wrong...IT'S THE HEAD GASKET!!!)

Now the power steering just went on my car...don't know what's causing it yet.. but it doesn't matter because the repair will be covered by my super third-party warranty.

IF YOU OWN THIS CAR... BUY A Warranty FOR IT NOW!!!

Other things wrong with my car:

1) Blower Resistor not working right... fan can either blow 100% or 20%, but hot/cold knob works thank goodness.

2) Monsoon stereo works for me BUT loose wires cause speaker crackling even when car SHUT OFF... once snow melts I'll track them down.

3) Low ground clearance is BAD for these midwestern winters... even with ABS/traction control/snow tires the low ground clearance results in getting stuck at the end of my driveway.

It's a nice-enough car so long as you have some sort of warranty to cover the myriad repairs that WILL come your way.

2001 Pontiac Grand Am SE1

Faults:

Clicking sound coming from the dashboard.

Turn signal not working properly.

General Comments:

I found out that the problem with the turn signals not working properly has to do with contaminated grease on the multi-purpose switch. This switch is found under the steering column shroud, on the top half of the steering column.

Remove the switch and clean off any grease that is bridging the copper contacts on the backside (forward in vehicle) of the switch.
