1965 Pontiac GTO Convertible 6.5 liter tri-power

Summary:

Tripower is thrilling, and makes a cool and super loud induction noise!

Faults:

The Muncie 4 speed blew up while power-shifting from 1st to 2nd.

Overheated going through the Rocky Mountains. Stopped and let it cool down, and it was fine.

General Comments:

This 65 GTO convertible had the tripower 4 speed. It had a loud induction sound coming from the tripower carbs at full throttle. Loved the vacuum sound it made, nothing quite like it. It was able to smoke the rear tires hard in first and second. Very nice engine and trans to drive everyday.

The car was found by my Dad in the Sacramento classifieds in 1982. I went with him to Northern California to a small house in the country to go get it. It was Red with a white top and white bucket interior.

We moved to Iowa and drove the car from California in 1983. It made it just fine except for a little overheating in the Rocky Mtns. It was used on occasion for parades and homecoming king and queen rides in Iowa. It sits in pieces in a garage awaiting restoration.

Great car.
