1999 Pontiac Montana EXT

Summary:

Great van if you don't mind spending 5 times the amount you paid to cover repairs... constantly!

Faults:

My SES light has been on for the last 2 years. It comes and goes as it pleases. Mechanic has changed multiple things to fix it. It's still on today.

My van makes these loud clunking noises randomly. I start it, and I'm just sitting there, and BAM, sounds like someone's hitting underneath with a hammer. No one knows what that is.

My wipers only work on high, but I've figured out how to park them and work around the problem. My back wiper fluid squirter is a joke. It drizzles down the window, so only half of it gets clean.

My van needed a water pump, something to make the AC motor stop whizzing, and a few other things that the used dealer had to fix right after I got it. It started to overheat and they also replaced the radiator, because it was leaking coolant. Few months later, my interior lights randomly came on in the middle of the night, so I missed work that day. I do not trust them anymore, so they are off permanently now.

I needed a new head gasket, temp gauge, new water pump, and something else I can't recall about a year and a half in. And then again, about 1 year later I needed another head gasket - due in part to the other mechanic doing a half ___ job. He didn't mill down the bolts, so another $1600 later my 2nd head gasket was installed. My heat doesn't work very well. More like warm AC in the winter.

I've had both front wheel bearings replaced.

Neither of my windows in the front work right. My drivers side goes down great, but up is another story. It stops halfway up, and goes crooked the rest of the way up. But it doesn't fully close, so there's always a breeze in my ears. My passenger window goes down, but not back up... sometimes.

In the last few months I've had issues with my sliding door seemingly going off the track. It will only open about a foot, and then I have to close it and reopen it a few times before I get it to open right.

I just had the head gasket and coolant flush oil chg etc replaced about 2 weeks ago, and my SES light is back on.

General Comments:

After all that, I do enjoy the roominess of the van. I like the options to remove seats.

Since I've gotten all the items fixed, the van does work great. However my engine light is back on, and it had a rough idle and start. Almost like it wants to stall, but doesn't.

I don't know. I wouldn't buy another Montana if it was $5. My boss had the same model van, and she had tons of electrical issues, including all lights out on the dash, no fuses blown. Her headlights and interior lights all went out when she left work one night. She has a 45 minute drive, and had no choice but to call for a ride.

1999 Pontiac Montana

Summary:

Piece-O-Crap

Faults:

When I first had the Van it was OK for about 2 days then the head gasket blew. Thank God I had a 30 day warranty so the dealership fixed it for me, no questions asked.

Then the lights on the radio quit working, the temperature light works only when it wants to, the tail lights had to be replaced and not just the light the whole computer board!

The alternator just fried my battery so I had to replace the alternator and the battery.

Now the power sliding door opens and shuts all by itself. The transmission is acting up and the head gasket has blown again.

I wish I had left this piece-o-junk sitting where I found it, but it had low miles on it when I bought it and the dealership really worked with me to get it to run right, I thought nothing else could go wrong.

General Comments:

I really like this model van and thought this one would last me until I died! My parents have one. Theirs was great so that's why I bought one.

Lots of room and can carry 6 passenger and that's what I was looking for.
