1990 Toyota Celica ST 1.6L

Summary:

An excellent sports car at a discount price

Faults:

Replaced the tires which improved the ride handling and acceleration.

Replaced original factory exhaust.

Brakes need replacement.

Dome light does not always turn on.

General Comments:

The car is 16 years old and runs better than most newer cars that I have driven. I would recommend a Celica to anyone. The car has never broken down, give an excellent ride, and is very fuel efficient.

1990 Toyota Celica GTS 2.2L

Summary:

Best buy for the dollar

Faults:

I was looking around for a luxury coupe (Lexus) when I came upon a 1990 celica celica GT-S. The timing belt needed replacing, and new plugs and wires.Man! this car is sweet, for city driving it's just like a 911.

The 1990 model is classic, my friends don't believe me when I tell them it's 14 years old!

Too bad the style has changed the cargo room when the seats are down is impressive.

General Comments:

Very fast four a 2.2L

Takes turns so good I spill my latte

Lots of space in back.

1990 Toyota Celica GT 1.6 5S-GE

Summary:

A Performance Dream!

Faults:

Not too many problems with this car.

I had to replace the headlight when I bought it, but I think that the previous owner messed around with it.

Also, I had to replace the right front directional when I purchased it.

Some minor body work needs to be done.

The tires will have to be replaced after a few more 100 miles.

General Comments:

This car thinks that it has a V-8! It takes off like a shot. I've beaten a Civic V-TEC and a Ford Probe GT.

The interior is in very good condition as well as the engine.

The car handles like a dream. I love taking my Celica out for a drive in any weather.

A/C Works beautifully! The car just looks mean. It has a very intimidating look to it. After a new paint job, this car is gonna be hot!

1990 Toyota Celica GT 2.2

Summary:

A sporty, fun, reliable car !

Faults:

Normal maintenance -- front brakes replaced twice over 14 years.

Timing belt replaced at 80,000 miles. Timing belt snapped at 141,000 miles with no engine damage at all!

Passenger side seat belt won't retract -- happened when it was three years old.

Replaced clutch at 160,000 miles.

Replaced distributor at 160,000 miles. Due to oil in distributor causing misfiring.

Motor mount loosened - tightened at 160,000 miles.

Constant problem over the last five years -- oil leaks. This what most likely caused the distributor to go.

General Comments:

I had basically no problems until the clutch, motor mount and distributor issue above. And even those are fairly normal, except for the oil leaks.

It has always gotten better than expected gas mileage, it is still fun to drive, and it still looks like new after a wash and wax.

1990 Toyota Celica GTS 2.2 Inline 4

Summary:

Excellent handling + high rev speeds

Faults:

Alternator went, and alternator connection needed to be replaced.

Leaked power-steering fluid, and oil (head gasket)

Steering pin clunks.

CV boot ripped.

General Comments:

Despite the various mechanical problems I had with the car, I could tell by its overall performance and amazing handling that it was an excellent design. I purchased the car after it had already been in an accident and wasn't in immaculate condition so the resulting problems are likely from that accident as well as heavy driving. Its very quick off the line (not so much uphill -typical of in-line) I would definitely recommend buying a Celica.

I am a 1990 Celica GTS owner. I agree that it is one of the most well built machines for it's class. I am always coming up to new levels of admiration for my car, if you own one you know what I mean. I do believe there is a weakness as far as the power steering fluid and head gasket are concerned. I've had my rack and pinion replaced and I don't remember any major problems, but a few noises here and there. I would recommend any replacement parts to be of higher performance, for both the car and the driver.

Sincerely, A proud owner.

Yes, driver, remember that when you get your parts replaced, to get performance parts.

And then your wife/girlfriend won't have to buy so many batteries!

Question.

I can't find my owners manual, and I don't think it would tell me this and I don't have to tools to look so.

Are there are there speaker holes in the doors? and if yes what size speakers?

I know there are 4" in the dash and 6 1/2" in the rear.

I purchased my Celica in Dec 2007. Had a bad oil leak and coolant leak. Replaced the water pump, all hoses, and had a mechanic replace all of the engine seals... next came brake pads and new calipers... and a four wheel alignment. I only gave 760.00 for the car... and 1000.00 later this is one sweet ride. I average 35 miles a gallon highway... all power options still work... the gt qualifiers hug the road like nobody's business. Only thing is this car runs hot. Always at 3/4 gauge in the city... I am thinking of a 170 degree thermostat now. I made a heck of a buy.

I have a 03 Dodge Neon SXT now. And man do I miss my 90 Celica GT-S.

It was reliable, had to fix nothing, bought it with about 100k miles about a year and a half ago for 2300 bucks. This thing was sharp, decent performance.

Too bad I totaled it, because this thing was sweet, fully loaded, everything.
