2000 Alfa Romeo GTV Lusso 2.0 TS

Summary:

Truly Affordable, Truly Fun Italian Sports Car!

Faults:

Nothing - Touch Wood!!!

Previous Owner had Washer Motor replaced at 16,000 Miles.

General Comments:

What can you say!!! It's an Alfa - My Bella!!

I know at some point it will throw a strop - not start, annoy me - but EVERY morning I wake up, leave the house - get in the Car, and Smile... Big Big Smile!!

Handling is Pin sharp - helped by the 2 Turns Lock to Lock, cornering is simply breathtaking - the car Handles all you can throw at it.

The 2.0 TS isn't silly quick... (0-60 around 8secs) but once rolling (20mph plus) the car will outrun most on the road - and get you into some serious trouble... its down to the Gearing and the Engine... and what an engine - Noise is slightly Muted (unlike the V6) the engine whines as it powers up; urging you to give it more and more throttle until the Heady heights of 7,500 RPM...

Awesome on B Roads - a Pussy Cat around town! A Fantastic car - If you love Alfa's you'll love this - and forgive any niggles you have about Finish etc... its what makes this car a Classic!

Occasionally the right person buys an Alfa! That's probably why theres been no problems. Good driving. Ron Taylor Australia.

Absolutely agree with the fact that this is a beautiful car. A pleasure to sit in as well as to drive. However I have never had such an unreliable car and the engine blew up twice!. Maybe I was unlucky although from the comments made by the garage this is normal. Therefore my advice, yes buy one a truly amazing car although do not be surprised to have to pay big money for repairs and servicing. (Top tip - do not take it to an Alpha dealer go to someone that specialises in them)

2000 Alfa Romeo GTV Lusso 6 speed 3.0

Summary:

A car for the enthusiast not the pragmatist

Faults:

Cracked front nearside alloy.

Buckled rear nearside alloy.

Tensioner on the auxiliary belt had to be replaced at 14000 miles.

Excessive wind-noise from both windows (passenger side was cured, but driver's window problems persist).

Excessive road noise started after the auxiliary belt was replaced - cause not yet uncovered by the dealer (new rear alloy did not solve the problem).

General Comments:

A genuinely fast car, but it's cornering ability does not instill confidence as there is a lot of body roll.

Ultimately the poor reliability and general build quality lets the package down.

Until I read your review, I was more simply dumbstruck at the high ratings Alfa owners were putting against reliability. I have owned 3 GTVs and had reliability problems with all of them (read any Alfa forum to see the recurring Airflow Meter problems, window faults and electrical nightmares of the average driver!). They are one of the most beautiful cars on the road, but looks soon pale against mounting garage bills!

It is good to see an honest appraisal of the reliability of Alfa GTVs.
