1998 Alfa Romeo Spider 2.O

Summary:

A real head-turner

General Comments:

Amazing car, I personally think is in a league of its own if bought second hand.

The price is right and the performance, for a 2 litre 16v is exceptional.

Only a few cars can boast the spider badge, although a baby compared to its bigger brother, it's another exceptional car designed by Pininfarina.

I am very happy with the style, performance and cost of ownership.

The one thing that lets the cheeky Italian sports car down is the servicing cost. Shame on you Alfa Romeo.

You'er not far wrong there... if bought at the right price it's an exceptional car and the enjoyment that you receive, rag-top up or down, is well worth it. Best of all, bought second hand and well looked after, you won't lose much when trading her in.

Summary:

Beautiful, but a bugger if you get a bad one

Faults:

Roof, roof and then another roof.

General Comments:

I've had two new Spiders this year.

They are lovely cars but frankly under powered.

Alfa Romeo dealer network is questionable, especially when it comes to roofs. I had three of them on this car and AR couldn't fix them.

Also, on both of my two Spiders, the paintwork was absolute crap.

Second car was sold after 7 weeks. 5 of them in the garage. Not surprisingly, nothing else went wrong with the car, but should it have after such a short time.

Fancied a change, so I bought a Lotus instead.

Agreed, the 2.0 TS is indeed underpowered, however, the new 3.0 V6 unit cannot be called that!

True! And very true! The 3.0 V6 is the nuts! I'm still in ownership of the 2.0 16V... Bloody nice car, can't say I've got any complaints. I'll have to wait until I can afford the insurance for the bigger brother.. But I can't wait.
