1995 Audi 80 E 2.6 petrol

Summary:

Classy and powerful

Faults:

Really not much while I have had it the last few years. Paid a decent amount of cash for the car in 2020, was in near perfect condition with full history, and the previous owner took care of an auto transmission rebuild, and attended to the engine oil leak; he also replaced many wear and tear parts according to history logs (exhaust, suspension, brakes, etc).

The car is now in near perfect condition for age. Garaged and every service since 1995. No rust, no marks, nothing.

General Comments:

I believe this was one of the last Audi 80's before the introduction of the A4 in late 1995.

Dark blue with alloy wheels and spoiler, really nice looking car. 2.6 E model is near top of the range. Very fast even with the auto box, however the car is poor on fuel by today's standards, I am getting 25 mpg at best cruising on the motorway. But it is of course used as a second car, it's not like I daily drive this thing. I have put only 8000 miles on it the last few years, partly due also to the pandemic.

Very comfortable and well designed interior. Mid 1990's interiors in cars were best in my opinion, stylish and not too complicated unlike later 2000's cars. Especially German cars. Everything just works. Visibility is good. Driving position is good. The car is quiet and smooth.

If you are looking for a use-able modern classic, you could do a lot worse than one of these. Make sure you buy a cared for car - these are expensive if anything goes wrong.

1995 Audi 80 Avant SE 2.0 (ABK)

Summary:

Superb, comfortable family bus

Faults:

Front suspension wishbones (twice) (£150).

Top strut mounts (£120).

Thermostat housing (£12).

Hall sensor in distributor (£85).

Rear washer motor (£38).

Gear box rubber mounts (£50).

General Comments:

Nice car! This is the second 2.0 SE Audi I've had, the first was a saloon from 1992.

These Audis are cheap to buy, relatively, for the level of comfort, and if you can wield a set of spanners, they are a good buy. However, avoid if you are uncomfortable to get your hands dirty.

Audi are VERY helpful in sourcing parts, seevral dealers have bent over backwards to help me in the past. In addition, and this is no joke, often genuine service parts are cheaper than Halfords!

OK, if something BIG goes wrong, you'll need a specialist and a decent breaker to help. All of the parts that needed replacing (above) I think are acceptable wear and tear.

I am slightly annoyed by the 30-33 mpg I get from my car; my old saloon would do 35-37 mpg, and that had nearly 180,000 miles on!

I find the car nice and comfy, even with four adults a weeks camping gear and two surfboards on the roof! I've driven mine Land's End to John O'Groats, toured Scotland and Wales... what more can I say?

1995 Audi 80 1.6

Summary:

Superb and stylish, it keeps on going

Faults:

The exhaust keeps dropping down, but easily fixed with a plastic tie from garage.

Driver window very temperamental at 60000 miles.

General Comments:

This car is magic.

It is over 10 years old now and there is not an ounce of rust anywhere despite it being seriously vandalised 2 years ago.

Design wise, it is superb. It still turns heads despite its age. The inside is maybe a little bit drab, but hey, we can't have everything for £9000.

Running wise, It has passed 8 out of 10 MOTs only needing new brake pads.

As a design, Audi have never surpassed it and as a car, it is the Bowie of cars.

1995 Audi 80 Sport 2.0 petrol

Summary:

A surprising bargain

Faults:

Intermittently working fuel gauge.

Drivers seat side support worn through.

General Comments:

I bought this particular vehicle in auction, and was surprised that even with a fairly high mileage, that everything still worked as it should.

The obvious wear and tear of a high mileage vehicle was evident, but even then, the engine and gearbox were still in perfect tune.

I find the performance and handling very good, this even compares with new models that are out today.

Conclusion, buy a good one, you can't go far wrong.

That's low mileage for a audi 80 sport mine had 29k and died of rust in the last months of its life.

I am amazed to hear your Audi 80 suffered rust problems at 29k. The Audi 80 had a 27 stage galvanised body with injection cavity wax filling and almost never rust at all unless accident damaged.

I have a 1993 80 and after 12 years there is no rust at all, and I mean NONE anywhere on the car. I checked all the door bottoms, underside, chassis welding points, hinges, suspension mounts, fuel tank Etc.

These cars don't rust unless they have been damaged.

I picked up a 1996 Audi 80 Sport in an auction in New Zealand for $2400 (about £750). It is the 2.6 V6 version, and goes like a rocket. It has just passed its Warranty of Fitness test (MOT) with no problems at all. The only issue I have is stalling at low revs (coasting down hill, in car parks). As it is an automatic this is more of a problem than in a manual where you can just rev it a bit.

There is no rust at all, and it still turns heads here.

I have recently purchased a 95 Audi 80 2.0 Sport also, and my first impressions are very good. It has covered approx 150,000 miles and still runs and drives incredibly well, returning fair MPG (I do mostly town driving - 30MPH) and when it does venture onto the express roads, the performance and road-holding are well up to standard; in fact, it out-performs many newer cars, and it is always a boon to have the additional power "on tap" in moments of need.

Bodily, there is only a small bubble of rust on a rear wheelarch, and the interior only suffers with a small bit of wear on the driver's side seat bolster. No other problems with this car! Central locking, electric mirrors and sunroof works as it should (No electric windows on this car, which I don't mind). that's amazing for a car of this age, or indeed the mileage. I can think of many other manufacturers not offering this level of build quality. With regard to my car purchases I vow to stick with the Germans or the Japanese from now on.
