2002 Audi TT 225 1.8 turbo petrol

Summary:

Good, however a few bad points as always

Faults:

I thought I would put my 2p worth of info on this site, as there are no new reviews on this car.

I have had my Audi TT 225 for 2 years now, and I have have very few problems.

Both brake lights have gone (luckily at different times) and the cam belt needs to be changed at around 60,000, NOT 70,000 like Audi say. However this is all even after 20,000 miles of use.

Bad points with the car; you do get understeer going round an average 30 degree corner over 60mph. This is due to Audi's ASP kicking in too early (too safe in my mind) when you start to push the TT (which you really want to do); all the safety ASP lights constantly flash on the dash. You can turn this off by pushing and holding the ASP button on the dash, but as soon as you start to push again, it comes back on.

If you are going to use this car to transport more than 2 people, the 3rd person better be the size of a pint glass, as the rear foot holes are tiny, even with the front seats fully forward. Plus due to the sloping roof, the head room in the back is VERY cramped.

General Comments:

Good points, and there are lots; the car still looks great, even in 2010, and has aged well for a 12 year old car. It looks a lot more expensive than it really is, even today.

The interior is a joy to look at. Even now with modern cars, it still looks better than most in its class. The seats are great (as most Audi's are) with the heated seats getting a bit too hot with leather on full power, however on long rides, they give you comfort and are supportive at speeds.

Speed wise, 0-62mph, I have had 6.4 sec, not 6.6 sec like Audi say, and mine is standard.

Top speed I have had 153mph, and it will not (believe me) do any more. However it gets there very quick (90-140mph); it's very fast due to the 6th gear.

Overall I have found the TT to be a very good car. Yes, you will be called a hairdresser if a man drives it, or an Essex slag if a woman drives it, but it is good to drive and is fast.

Quick question for you on running speeds and RPMs of car and such. Since the turbo doesn't spool up and kick in until about 3000 RPMs, do you experience a considerable amount of turbo lag? Can you take off from like 2000-2500 RPMs and be fine, not be taking off really slowly but not racing either? How many RPMs are you running in 5th gear at 60, and 70 MPH? What about in 6th gear?

Thanks a lot. I'm just curious how much of a difference the extra gear makes for relaxed highway cruising as I may be getting the car soon.

General Comments:

Car is a dream, very quick, supurb handling, wonderful interior, just a great car, wonderfull sound system, heated seats add to the driving pleasure. and you don't have to drive it hard to prove anything, looks say it all... but, its black and it shows the grime, but who cares it's a pleasure to clean. did round trip to London 410 miles (motorway) on 1 tank of fuel returned 35.1-gallon.

But then I don't have anything to prove. You talk like it's a Porsche 911 Turbo when it's only an Audi TT, everyone has one. And a lot of cars you see on the road like Focus ST, RS, Clio 172, Honda Civic Type R are just as fast, if not faster.
