1994 Fiat Cinquecento SX 0.9

Summary:

It is a great little car

Faults:

Bonnet Cable snapped off when I went to open the bonnet. Speedometer Cable snapped and the Driver seat has started to wear.

General Comments:

Apart from these problems the car is great and for a small car it is quite quick.

1994 Fiat Cinquecento 1.0

Summary:

Over-all its fast, small and a comfortable car

Faults:

My handbrake is not reliable, it does not hold the car on hills.

The car over heats all the time when stopped in traffic.

I've had to replace the head gasket twice within 16 months.

General Comments:

I tend to find that the car can't take corner's more than 30 m.p.h. If you proceed at that speed it skids slightly also it feels as if it is going to topple.

It is a great mover I can get 95 m.p.h. on a straight road, but at around 90 m.p.h. the wheel gets shaky.

Parking is brilliant it fit's in practically anywhere.

1994 Fiat Cinquecento SX 899cc injection

Summary:

A comfortable nippy go-kart with a roof

Faults:

Nothing major has gone wrong with this car really.

My handbrake was not too brilliant. I was told this was common in Italian cars. Nothing a bit of copper grease on the rear brake drums couldn't solve. Also tightened the cable to two notches being fully on.

Other things that have been replaced are just consumables like a rear wiper blade and front brake disc's.

General Comments:

If you are a speed freak, this is definitely not the car for you. It is capable of out-pacing normal road speeds though. There are lots of comments related to the speed of this car going round, but I can assure you, it holds brilliantly on the motorway for general traveling and overtaking. Acceleration in first gear through to third is very quick too.

The interior is very comfortable. Every switch is at easy reach and the seating in all seats is very comfortable. There are plenty of cubby holes which provide storage, minus a glove box. To be inside, it feels a much higher budget car than it actually is.

The extras with this car which make it different from the standard Cinquecento which are the sunroof, electric windows and alarm/immobiliser system are reliable and work very well. The sunroof also has a handy cover which is easy to fit and remove which is useful for the winter. It has a handy storage space in the boot too.

The ride of the car feels a bit bumpy until you get used to it, but after a while it will become un-noticed due to the comfort of the car including its very comfortable and supportive seats in the front and back.

Body roll is an issue especially on roundabouts with this car, but I think it adds to its cheeky character.

Boot space is limited, but is ample for what I need it for. If I did need to carry a larger load, I would not be troubled as the rear seats fold down very well and easily.

Interior, exterior, suspension and performance upgrades are also very easily accessible for this model.

1994 Fiat Cinquecento Base 0.9

Summary:

Fantastic first car

Faults:

Battery died, but that was partly my fault. Had the door open all day whilst it was repaired and interior light was left on!

Hydraulic tappets needed replacing recently. Very expensive! £15 each and then fitting! Thermostat also needed replacing at the same time, along with oil, water, brake fluid etc.

Handbrake also failed along with the rear brakes.

General Comments:

For a 900cc this car is amazing! The acceleration at low speeds is surprisingly fast considering the engine size.

I often use the car on dual carriage-ways and it doesn't struggle at 80mph. Even sits at 90mph occasionally, but not that comfortably.

With a full load of passengers the performance suffers incredibly. The power which was there seems to vanish, but gets up to speed eventually.

Overall, it's a fantastic first car.
