Good looking car excellent features.

Poor build quality and no quality control at factory.

Suspension to stiff for British roads.

Ride and ride height very poor compared to other similar makes.

1242 8v engine pretty good, but a bit noisy at medium to high revs and a bit lumpy at low revs due to emission laws.

Interior very well thought out, but poorly put together.

2000 Fiat Punto HGT 1.7 16v

Summary:

Bargain 'sports' car with all the extras!

Faults:

Exhaust has started to 'bang' as I pull away fast.

The Sat Navigation cuts out sometimes.

General Comments:

What a car!

I only picked the car up two days ago, but wow!

The car leaves 'fast' cars in its wake.

Now OK I am only 22yrs old so this seems fast to me, but it might not to the older driver, but it is a lot of fun.

The Sat Navigation seems to cut out when it wants to, but this is being sorted by the garage.

The car will propel you from 0-60mph in 8.6secs (manufacture claims), but it seems a whole lot faster! and it will take you to 130mph easily.

So don't just sit there! Go buy one, someone told me these are hard to come by, maybe something to do with the group 15 (!) insurance group, but you will not regret it!

There is no such car as a 1.7 Punto HGT. I think you will find that your car is a 1.8. The insurance group is not 15 it is actually 14. The car is not as rare as you say as over 12,000 of these HGT Puntos were sold in the UK last year.

8.6 sec claimed by fiat, was with a full tank of fuel, a 20kg ballast in the boot and 2 passengers!

So yes the car is a whole lot faster than that figure.

Try 7.4-60 mph.

Although its been done quicker.

Yes I agree that the stated Fiat Punto HGT performance figures are too conservative. 0-60 is a good 1-2 seconds faster is reality as I've found out!.

I think you will find it's a 1747, which would round down to a 1.7, which is what the car should be sold as.

2000 Fiat Punto ELX 16v 1.25

Summary:

Good little run around..

Faults:

Electric Power Steering had gone very lumpy several times. Motor got replaced under warranty. And again! Still lumpy so Fiat looked at it again an they said water/condensation must have got into the motor somehow. they removed the dash board and found a leak. in the process they caught the Air con pipe an caused the gas to leak. They just regassed it. Leaked out again an they replaced the pipe.

Had rear shockers reaplaced after 400 miles. (I owned from new...)

Handbreak mounting under the car came lose. Got welded back up by Fiat.

Slight misfire at idle. Fiat say "its OK" but think its the Lambder Probe...

Offside rear suspension arm came lose!!

General Comments:

The car is seriously economical. I'm averaging 68MPG from it via motorways AND town driving! Crackin handling and performance too! And the ELX gets a decent stereo and AMP in the boot!
