1999 Fiat Seicento Sporting 1.1 petrol

Summary:

Cheeky, characterful city car with a lot of qualities, however it requires some care and patience

Faults:

I had to replace the battery about 3 weeks after purchasing, which was quite expensive because the garage had to source it from Fiat themselves.

I had to also replace the entire clutch assembly, which was very expensive and was difficult to install.

I had to replace a snapped handbrake cable about 6 weeks after purchasing the car.

The back window wiper has ceased working and is waiting to be fixed.

Also, the left front fog-light has stopped working and needs re-wiring, after a failed attempted to simply replace the bulb.

General Comments:

Peppy performance; it is quick away from the lights, even with a full compliment of passengers.

The handling is very good, especially in the dry. However, in the rain, a lot of the grip is lost and replaced with wheel-spin, even in 2nd gear. It's tail never slides on the other hand, therefor always feels safe.

Surprisingly roomy interior for such a small exterior, with good headroom and good amount of space between the driver's knees and the steering wheel. However, the cabin is maybe just a bit on the narrow side, so it is a squeeze getting 3 abreast in the back bench.

Comfortable seats, with good bolstering because they are the sporting model's seats.

1999 Fiat Seicento Abarth 1.1

Summary:

Fast and furious Fiat

Faults:

First Hand brake went.

Then the cooling system, head gasket blew at 70,000 miles

Passenger seat lever broke off

Tryes need replacing regulary

Paint work chipping

Petrol tank split

Mirror got broken.

General Comments:

I love my car it look fantastic, its brilliant on fuel. I like the interior. The car is fast when setting off from lights. Little and Nippy can get in the smallest of spaces. The boot space is a little small, but just enough room for weekly shop. I was disappointed that there is no temperature gauge, as didn't know car was over heating. Car will shake when you hit 8omph, but brilliant little car.

1999 Fiat Seicento Sporting 1.1

Summary:

Cheap to buy, and a lot of fun

Faults:

Clutch cable snapped.

Brake pads needed changing.

Car playing up with starting, needs bumping a lot, not battery, may be starter motor? (any suggestions welcome).

Tyres wear quickly, and are quite pricey for the size!

General Comments:

Handles well, although quite bad body roll with speed.

Very comfortable, with loads of room in the front, and good on long journeys, for a small car.

Very eye catching as I have the bright yellow one.

Very nippy around town, and holds its own on the motorway.

Hi there, I've just bought a second hand 2001 MPI Sei., which has few bits wrong.

Nankang useless tyres fitted to the front.

Sunroof leaks - get a new seal!

Tapping sound is appalling, but gonna put slightly thicker oil in to change that!

A few scratches.

If anyone wants any questions answering, pop over to fiatforum.com, we're always happy to help with any problems.

I have years of car and Fiat knowledge.

In response to clutch cable problem; it's a bad design on Fiats part :( If you look round the net, you will find a strengthened clutch cable for the Sei. and Cinq. at about £20 :)

1999 Fiat Seicento Sporting 1.1

Summary:

Very reliable, great runaround

Faults:

The paint on the bonnet is of poor quality compared to the rest of the car. Fiat did not honour their paint warranty when a very acidic bird poop ate through the top layer & left the white undercoat showing through. Thought this was a bit bad customer service from the Fiat dealer.

General Comments:

The engine has started to get a bit sluggish.

The handling is great in the dry, somewhat slippery in the wet!

I find the types very expensive to replace as they are a rare size, not always stocked in all tyre shops.

I'm tall, and find there is plenty of room for the driver & passengers.

Insurance is cheap, shame the Fiat services are still so expensive! I don't take mine to Fiat any longer due to the high costs involved.
