2000 Ford Focus Zetec 2.0

Summary:

Engine problems have limited enjoyment of a fantastic driving machine

Faults:

Engine revs sticking.

Engine revs increasing.

Acceleration noise.

Wind noise.

Remote key.

General Comments:

Performance is now pretty good after much tuning by the dealer (he has now used 2001 settings).

Handling and road holding are superb, especially in the wet with the electronic stability programme.

Steering is razor sharp allowing the car to be positioned exactly.

Ride is pretty good considering the 50 profile tires.

I too have the same revving problems on my 2.0 "Ghia" Focus that is also on a W registration. The dealers say there is nothing wrong with the car, but there is!

What did your dealer do to fix the problem?

Please reply.

Ask the dealer to check part numbers on the inlet manifold system... possibly has the Mondeo manifold fitted, mine did...

I'm from Estonia and own Focus 1.8 tddi. I have problems with revs too. Dealer checked car twice and said nothing. May be there is some expensive repair?

2000 Ford Focus Ghia 2.0 Zetec

Summary:

A fantastic allrounder

Faults:

Loose rear exhaust section @ 17000m.

General Comments:

Fantastic little car, thoroughly recommended. Oustanding handling, plenty of poke, average 34mpg, have seen an easy 130mph on the clock (downhill!). Very well kitted out including an excellent stereo.

2000 Ford Focus Ghia 2.0

Summary:

Wish I'd chosen something else

Faults:

Heated screen elements not working, had to be replaced

Very noisy interior. No fix.

Engine over revving while in neutral. In 3 times for this in 3 months before they diagnosed the fault. A Mondeo part fitted by mistake!! No parts available to fix it. A problem with a batch of vehicles apparently which have not been recalled.

General Comments:

Handling is sluggish.

Economy is decidedly average.

Boot capacity is too small.

Cabin noise is excessive.

If my company's service was as bad as Ford dealers have been to me, then we would not have a business left.

I also have this problem with rev hang up, after 3 visits to the dealer, they have finally admitted the Mondeo inlet manifold was fitted by mistake. They ordered the 3 parts required and it's taken 4 weeks for them to arrive. The part numbers are 1111723, 1076244 & 1053252. Hope this helps someone out.

2000 Ford Focus Zetec 1.8 Zetec

Summary:

Nice one!

Faults:

Nothing really yet...

Worried about the dealer service though - took them 8 weeks to return my service history book to me after they forgot to stamp it.

Only other niggles are the cheapo fuel filler flap, and I had trouble getting comfortable on long journeys due to the lack of support under my right leg.

General Comments:

Very pleased with the car so far.

I gave it a 10 for performance because it corners like it's on rails and is great fun to drive. The 1.8 engine goes very well, but it's no hot hatch.

The looks have really grown on me, especially the 3-door version which I have.

Just need to save up for the RS version now...

2000 Ford Focus Millennium 1.8

Faults:

Dealer fitted sunroof leaked badly and took 3 visits to repair.

Fuel consumption is abysmal

-28MPG best

-24MPG worst

Still not resolved.

Annoying rattle around the off side seatbelt mounting. Still unresolved.

General Comments:

Ford dealer seems to want to convince me that I live in "hilly area" and that's the reason for the low MPG!!

If like me you have driven Japanese cars and are thinking of moving to Ford then be prepared to spend more time at your dealership having basic build faults fixed.

Beware "We have recalibrated your engine management system", it means they have spent 2 minutes on your car and it will be returned to you in exactly the same condition as you left it that morning.

My Millenium does no better than 28mpg - great to drive but I have been very disappointed compared to my Honda Accord (which we still have).

Build quality is not a patch... lot's of squeaks and rattles.

We too have had a problem with the fuel consumption. Otherwise we are extremely happy with the car. We have visited our local dealer at least 3 or 4 times and they will not admit there is a problem. They did "calibrate the engine management" but to no avail. They tested the car over 10 miles of mixed motoring - but they returned 29mph plus. Its nice to know its not just our driving that is giving the poor consumption rate.

I have a two Litre Ghia with all the Gizmo's and I get 35-38 to the gallon. Just be patient, the Zetec engines are not run in until 12-15000, then you'll see your mpg improve.

The Zetecs also have a very sensitive throttle valve - when cruising lift your foot very slightly, your speed will not drop, but your MPG will rocket. The MPG I quote above is mixed driving, on long open road motoring it's nearer 42-43 mpg and that's a 2.0 litre. I defy any Japanese car of same spec and engine size to better that.
