1987 Ford Granada Scorpio Ghia 2.9 petrol

Summary:

Comfortable and affordable luxury car

Faults:

Brake cable snapped at 68,000 miles.

Sunroof motor failed at 70,000 miles.

Tyres wore very quickly.

General Comments:

Only faults in the space of two years were a snapped brake cable, failed sunroof motor and quick wearing tyres.

Extremely comfortable and smooth to drive.

Expensive to run and repair.

Superb ride and strong handling.

Good value for money at £8,000 for a three year old luxury car.

Lost value dramatically and two years later was part-exchanged for £3,500.

1987 Ford Granada GLi 2.4i EFI V6

Summary:

Lots of cruiser for the money

Faults:

Power steering rack sprung a leak, cheap fix to get it through MOT.

Rear brake pads.

Idle sensor a bit dodgy now at 105,000, but easy to work around.

Bad tyre threw out the ABS sensors, leading to the ABS cutting in when it shouldn't. Easily solved by replacement of tyre.

Middle section exhaust went at 100,000 - again, cheap fix.

General Comments:

I absolutely love my Granada.

Very quick, comfortable, brilliant for long journeys, handles like a dream since the power steering rack was replaced.

Cheap parts.

Lots of extras, bells and whistles. Sounds like a Beamer when the transmission kicks down!

1987 Ford Granada 2.0i GL 2.0 4 cylinder Pinto 8v inject

Summary:

A reliable, comfy, affordable executive cruiser

Faults:

Blown head gasket shortly after purchase, but easy DIY repair.

Slight play in steering rack.

Otherwise faultless!

General Comments:

The best car I have owned so far, cheap to buy, fairly cheap to run, and above all mega reliable. (well mine was anyway!)

Smooth ride, with big comfy armchair seats, and tons of electronic toys, all of which worked, and never caused me any trouble.

2.0 litre pinto eight valve engine a little rough at high revs, but cruises easily with little effort, despite having done nearly 146,000 miles!

Looked awesome with full RS body-kit and alloys!

1987 Ford Granada GL 2.4 EFI V6

Summary:

Very strong, reliable, comfortable cruiser

Faults:

Brakes + usual wear and tear.

General Comments:

Reliable, quite quick, refined, big, comfortable tank.

Very solid as the bloke in the Pug 505 found out when I wrote his feeble french motor off.

Good economy for the size of the car and engine.

No rust (yet) which can't be bad for a 14 year old car.

1987 Ford Granada Scorpio RS 2.9 12v

Summary:

The last and best performance rear wheel drive car Ford have made

Faults:

I bought the car for 600 pounds and it needed a new windscreen, cost around 200.

Replaced the gearbox with Cossie auto, didn't need replacing but cost around 500.

I have replaced the radiator, 60 pounds and replaced all the gaskets on the engine costing around 90 with the engine parts being chromed and painted in places.

Apart from this, the only real costs have been servicing with new performance filters, leads and Bosch super 4 plugs.

I have replaced all the head lamp bulbs with 90/130's instead of the 55/60.

New front fogs, 25 pound each with 100 watt bulbs and 4 miniature spots with 130 watt bulbs in each, a total of 1040 watts of mainbeam when all switched on.

Windows have been blacked to limo black to match the paintwork and body kit.

Stereo was replaced with Pioneer through out.

General Comments:

I would never get rid of this car unless it died in an accident, if so the it would be replaced with a 24v Cossie.

The best car I have ever owned, and with its big engine it pulls itself along and although weighing a lot with all the electrics and optional extras that this car has, it has the power to get you out of trouble should you need to.
