2001 Ford Ka Basic model 1.3

Summary:

Brilliant!

Faults:

No problems.

General Comments:

This car has been amazing. I drive every day. Lots of city and motorway driving. I have to state that this car has NEVER let me down. It starts first time and always has.

OK, it is basic and cheap plastic, and the engine is from the Ark, but I have never had such a brilliant, fun to drive, brilliant steering motor. I'll miss it when it finally conks out on me.

I have not had it serviced for 5 years, and it still keeps rolling on.

I think the suspension bushes are on the way out on offside front, but apart from that, 11/10 all the way!!

2001 Ford Ka Collection 1.3

Faults:

Snapped a spark plug off due to the way they sit in the engine. The tops corrode and become stuck. When you try and remove them, you risk snapping them like I did.

General Comments:

Great little car.

Feels almost brand new, even though it is 9 years old.

Easy to drive, handles like a go-kart, but rides like a bigger car.

Small cars can feel like shopping trolleys, but the Ka drives like bigger Fords do.

Engine is smooth and nippy.

Controls are easy to find and use while driving.

I wish I'd avoided all of the other cars I've owned, and got a Ka from the beginning.

It's easy to drive, park, gets good MPG, has a high spec, still looks modern, and is cheap to run and cheap to buy.

2001 Ford Ka Collection 1.3i

Summary:

A good car

Faults:

Indicator connection.

General Comments:

I love my Ford KA. I recently passed my driving test and can honestly say that my KA is so easy to drive.

The car is stereotyped to be a girly car, but after seeing mine, many of my male friends have decided to purchase a Ka.

They are very easy to repair, service, insure and tax. It is a very good first car.

The interior of a Ka is very comfortable. I am quite a petite person, therefore when I drive I have my chair quite far forward; this creates more leg room in the back.

There are many KAs that show corrosion, this may be because the owners simply don't take care of them. I was advised by my dealer to maintain and look after my car so it doesn't depreciate too much in value. I wash my Ka every week and put a good coat of wax on it to protect it corroding.

My indicator connection as become loose, resulting in the reliability of my front right indicator to decrease. This is a common fault and takes minutes to repair.

2001 Ford Ka 1.3

Summary:

OK for a first car

Faults:

Suspension bushes needed replacing as this failed the MOT, which cost around £200 to replace last year.

Apart from obvious problems such as rusting and sometimes strange noises being heard in the cabin, which is only a rarity, not too many problems.

However, I now have a new problem which seems to be getting worse, the car is 2001 and has covered a mere 24,500, but it's hard to start sometimes, and is becoming increasingly more common. It's especially after it's been driven and is warm/hot, but still does it when it is cold. When you turn the ignition it turns over for a good 3 seconds and then starts reluctantly, which is most annoying and embarrassing. Any suggestions anyone, there seems to be a lack of information on the Internet.

I had the same problem, but not with the same make of car. If you do, don't buy cheap supermarket petrol is the simple answer - once I stopped doing that, my old car started first time every morning in winter. Wishing you safe and hassle-free driving.
