2002 Ford Mondeo LX 2.0 TDDi

Summary:

So far so good

Faults:

Nothing.

General Comments:

I just bought my Mondeo recently and so far so good. I studied up on both the TDDi and TDCi models, and decided to go with the TDCi model... so I thought!

As I was looking up the difference between the two engines, I heard a lot about the TDCi's popping injectors, which are extremely expensive. But after the getting the low down on the TDCi, I said I would give it a try as it had better consumption, power and so on compared to the TDDi.

Went to look at one in Limerick, and I liked it, so I bought it. I presumed that it had the TDCi engine as it was an 02, only to find a week later by a friend it had the TDDi engine!!

As other people have said on other reviews that it's dated and old, but I'm finding it quite alright.. don't get me wrong, it is a bit loud when idling compared to the TDCi, but it doesn't really bother me as I was expecting a diesel car to be loud.

As for power, it's slow through the gears if you're planning a drag race, but it has plenty of power if you try to pass something when cruising around 50 mph.

On a plus side, it doesn't have a timing belt, so you don't have to worry about it snapping on you; instead it has a chain, which can be tightened. Also, you don't worry about popping an injector, which is a lot more common in the TDCi.

Anyway, so far so good. I wouldn't put anyone of buying it. I've had no problems yet, so hopefully it stays that way... ha hope this helped someone..

Hell, I have just bought a 2002 Ford Mondeo. It's the TDCi LX model, and I don't know much about cars, but do you pop the injectors by driving the car too hard, or if you are a good and responsible driver, would you have as much chance of it happening to you eg. not speeding and changing gears when you are meant to, instead of always red lining it?

2002 Ford Mondeo Zetec 1.8

Summary:

Excellent all rounder

Faults:

A spring on rear suspension snapped at approx 56000 miles, and cost £80 to replace. Apart from that it has passed every MOT with flying colours.

General Comments:

This car has been an excellent work horse for me, with good comfort, ride and reliability.

However the engine can be a tad noisy at higher revs/speeds.

2002 Ford Mondeo LX 2.0 turbo diesel

Summary:

Good sturdy car for long journeys

Faults:

My clutch went one year after purchase.

My fly wheel went the same time.

The starter went 3 months after.

Battery had to be changed.

The windows are open when I go to car, even if I touch keys when they are in the house and far away from the car. Can't leave car as it would be unlocked when I get back to it.

General Comments:

The car is a very fast car and very economical in diesel.

The heaters are not the best, and it can be very cold in the winter time.

It seats 3 people very comfortably in the back.

The booth is a great size, and is fantastic if you have a pram to put in, and you will also get your shopping in.

Good family car.

2002 Ford Mondeo Ghia 2.0 TDCI turbo diesel

Summary:

A good car overall. I wish I went for the petrol version and avoided all this extra cost!!!

Faults:

Shortly after getting my car, I needed the injectors reprogrammed.

Surprise injectors again! This time I got reconditioned ones fitted, as the new ones are nearly the price of the car!

One month later trouble again. Oil in the diesel, paid 30 pounds to get it tested. Two bad injectors and a suspect pump. Got injectors fixed, new pump fitted and a new fuel tank fitted; old one had no lining left on inside. Nobody knows why there was oil in the fuel, including Ford. After all this was done, I'm still getting oil in my fuel.

The climate control stopped working.

Six disc CD player stopped working. When I removed it to retrieve my CD's, there was lots of writing on it and a yellow Ford sticker saying it had been reconditioned 8 months ago. So took it to a Ford garage only to be told tough, there was no warranty with CD players.

Bad luck you might say? This all happened within nine months.

General Comments:

Nice car to drive when it works, 130 hp is nice, and the car has a lovely inside.

Mpg is low even after the new pump, I average 350 miles to a tank and that's normal driving.

The estate has a good load bay.
