2003 Ford StreetKa 1.6

Summary:

I love it!

Faults:

Alarm kept going off after I had had the roof down. This was due to the fact that I had not shut the back flap properly (where the soft top is stored).

Remote on key fob broken.

General Comments:

I love my Streetka, but looking at all reviews, I think I have been very lucky with mine.

2003 Ford StreetKa Luxury 1.6 petrol

Summary:

Dreadful reliability spoils a cracking design

Faults:

Where to start?

Interior door handles stopped functioning (3x)

Coil packs (2x)

Catalytic converter (probably caused by the above)

Oxygen sensor

Expansion tank split, dumping the coolant all over the road.

Thermostat stuck closed - luckily the engine didn't cook.

Exterior door lock jammed.

Alarm goes off permanently if the car is locked by remote.

Anti roll bar bushes

Front wishbone bushes

Engine management light on and "limp home" at random (happened four times), with nobody able to find out the cause.

General Comments:

Great little design, completely ruined by appalling reliability.

Performance is lively enough, but fuel economy is atrocious. The emissions are high too for a small car, and the car will be clumped by the VED revisions coming in next year.

Excellent handling with lots of steering feel. Has a delightful "go kart" feel when pressing on, and the agility and balance of the chassis are still very impressive. A fun car to drive, if not a very quick one.

Exterior and interior finish has held up well, but constant component failures and poor fixtures and fittings are an ongoing nightmare. The locking mechanism seems to be a fragile design, with handles and locks failing far too often.

I've spent over £2,000 on unscheduled maintenance since the warranty expired, and it has dumped me by the roadside four times. Twice with coil failures, and twice for cooling system problems. Front suspension bushes are another weak point, with bangs and clonks coming in every year or so as more bushes turn to cheese and have to be replaced.

Need to keep it now, as I've pumped too much money into it which I'll never recoup if I sell. A shame, as I still like the design and the drive. It's the newest car I've bought, and the one I've trusted least to complete a journey without incident. It's been perfect for the last four months though, which is a record. A sad state of affairs, but at least things are looking up.

I can't recommend this car.

I think the biggest problem is (and this applies to many used cars) that previous owners thrash them around or fail to keep them "properly" maintained, i.e. they may do the minimum or totally neglect maintenance, other than the usual air filter etc. Any car that's neglected previously will eventually be a nightmare. What's worse, is these previous owners often know they are selling someone else their problems.

Hope the reliable period keeps going...

2003 Ford StreetKa Luxury 1.6 8v

Summary:

Leon's stolen my heart

Faults:

Very little has gone wrong with the car so far. The general drive is sublime and the only complaints I have are 1) The paint is a complete pain to keep clean and 2) the driver's side seatbelt is a pain to use.

Due to the angle of the belt, you need to pull it straight out and release it so that the whole thing will return properly, even then sometimes it will tangle and fold as it feeds in.

The dealer I took it to for a service seemed to ignore all my comments and requests (Reg Vardy). I may be female, but I know my way around cars and I don't appreciate being treated like an air headed bimbo because I have cleavage. I plan on having my car serviced elsewhere in future.

The wear on the seats is negligible, the leather seems to stretch a little along the sides, but with leather balm applied regularly, there's nothing wrong with that and it just gives my baby a little more character.

General Comments:

I love this car. I can't get enough of driving it and in the summer, when you have the top down and the music turned up, people don't just turn their heads to get a second look, they go for third and fourth looks. Not as fun as the normal ka for handling, but even so, I pull away quick, throw it into corners and generally thrash the hell out of it and he loves every second.

Even my dad loves driving my little Leon.

Worth every single penny, and I'd say I wanted more power, but if I had it, I'd probably end up killing myself.

Even so, if I was in this car, I'd die happy.

I have not got any complaints with my StreetKa so far.

General Comments:

This car is fantastic! I have been hoping to buy one of these cars for some time now, and I am 100% pleased now I have actually bought one.

Its speed is very impressive, and it looks wonderful. I can't wait till the Summer when I can have the roof down.
