1990 Honda Civic GL 1.4 16v

Summary:

Very reliable, cheap motoring

Faults:

None, excellent reliability.

General Comments:

Overall an excellent car. Very reliable, I've never had any serious problems with it although I do respect it and service it regularly.

Driving wise is handles very well, having power steering is a definite benefit.

The seats are very low in the car so you feel closer to the road, this is comfortable while allowing a good feel for the car.

The performance is fairly good, although don't expect much pull on the motorway. I tend to like fast cars, so perhaps I'm being biased, but while the 0-60 of the car is respectful the top end seems minimal. Although only a 1.4, the twin carb 16 valve set up makes it as fast as a 1.8 8v Golf Gti, while matching it's reliability.

Fuel economy is fairly good, around 150 miles to a tank. Insurance is actually fairly high considering its performance, but it's a fairly old car with no alarm or immobilizer.

Although it's generally reliable, hope that nothing goes wrong as Honda parts are a rip-off.

Generally, you will not be disappointed, for reliability and low-cost running it's a bargain.

R you sure you get 150miles to a tank? I think you mean 350 to a tank.

1990 Honda Civic 1.6 16i 1.6

Summary:

A very good reliable comfortable car

Faults:

So far nothing has failed on it and the car has only needed some very minor parts replacing for MOT (cost me less than £70 including the cost of test itself).

General Comments:

Love it!! This car is great it is so many things in one car. It's a small workhorse, the seats collapse to leave a very good sized boot which has moved all my stuff between flats on a couple of occasions. It's a little sports car capable of leaving many things behind! It's a little city run around that will chop and change lanes in an instant, and I can always get through those little gaps that BMW's get stuck in!! Lastly its very reliable (touching some wood here) so far in the two years I have had it I have done nothing to it. Has a bit of rust which I will need to get sorted for next MOT, but mechanically its seems sweet, and the engine really purrs. Only bad point with mine is that the brakes slightly bind from time to time, which of course is a bummer as it slows me down!!

1990 Honda Civic i16 1.6

Summary:

Bargain B Road rocket

Faults:

Drivers side window jammed open twice.

Passenger side window jammed open once.

Radiator blew and it overheated on and off for months before that.

General Comments:

Love the car for it's acceleration and handling, this is the fastest car I've had yet. I Smile every time it passes 4,000rpm as it flies. It does have and interesting habit of torque steering. It slides all over the shop in the wet, but this is the car I've learnt to slide in and it is a hoot. I think the handling could be cleaned up with something other than the budget tires that are on it now. Apart from the reliability I can't fault it apart from I'm used to the power now and am shopping for a Turbo kit...

1990 Honda Civic 1.6i-16 1.6i DOHC

Summary:

Smooth and stealthily quick

Faults:

I only bought this car a month ago, and it needed a new indicator lens, and the exhaust blows. That's just down to a missing bolt though, so it shall be remedied quickly.

General Comments:

I upgraded to the 1.6 Mk4 Civic from a 1.5 GTi Mk3 Civic, for the better performance and quality.

It is exceptionally quiet and refined, but not significantly faster. Having said that I got from Cornwall to Reading, a distance of 268 miles, in 2hrs 40mins! An average speed of 100.3mph.

At those speeds though it drinks like a fish. A full tank only lasted 180 miles.

All the electrics work well still, and the alarm remote too.

The factory fitted stereo is a joke.

I have owned a 1991 civic 1.6I 16 for 8 years, current mileage 213000. Used for traveling weekly Dumfries to Heysham (lancs) Superb on motorway, fast, responsive, and very reliable. I like the fact that this car is not generaly recognised as a very fast hot hatch.
