2001 Hyundai Accent i 1.3 petrol

Summary:

Good for a budget car

Faults:

One piece of trim around the front bumper needed re-gluing (warranty fix).

Control buttons on clock very stiff, clock replaced under warranty.

General Comments:

Performance is adequate rather than brilliant, but for a 1.3 it's quite nippy. Runs out of acceleration a bit past 65-70mph.

Interior a bit cheap and plasticky, but seems well put together with no rattles, although the drivers seat does squeak a bit (maybe due to my fat backside!!!)

Nice and easy to drive, great clutch and gearchange, steering is light and responsive, lacks a bit of feel though and grip is a bit lacking in the wet.

Brakes good, but a bit soft -- lots of braking power at high speeds, but not much assistance compared with some more modern designs.

Some nice design touches, such as the rubberised rear bumper covering around the hatch area to protect the paintwork, and the cup-holder mechanism on the dashboard. The car seems very logically set out to me as well.

Paintwork is very good. I can't see any blemishes on my car.

Car seems to be very reliable, but there is one complaint I have -- it isn't very refined. *All* Accents and Kia Rios I've driven seem to be the same -- not much sound-proofing, and the gearbox whines slowing down in second. It isn't severe, but it is annoying unless you put it out of your mind.

Overall, for the money, I'm happy.

OK, still have this car, I've put another 13000 near-faultless miles on it, only issue has been a noisy wheel bearing that was replaced without fuss under warranty. Apart from that it has served me well, always starts first turn of the key and still no mechanical or electrical issues to speak of. On a four year old cheap car, that's not a bad record.

Faults:

The main problem that I have got is with a vibration I feel through my seat mainly. I have taken the car back twice to the garage, prior to the second occasion I took one of the garage's technicians out with me. On both occasions I was told it's only wheels that need balancing, but alas I still have this vibration. This vibration is spoiling my driving and I wondered if any one else as had any similar problem?

Wiper blades are very noisy.

I have a problem with noisy brakes - it appears the noise comes from the rear brakes. The garage have had the car back to clean the brakes, but still they are very noisy. I feel for the miles this car has done this should not be happening.

My brakes were the same and I've just got them changed the problem vanished.

I am having the same problem. I have had the front brakes changed (rotors and brake pads) in the front. Now the brakes squeal all the time and it sounds like the back brakes.

My mechanic is a family friend and says that he cannot find anything wrong even though I have had them checked 3 times.

I also have noisy brakes - I have taken the car back MANY times asking them to check the brakes, machine the rotors clean everything out etc... The brakes always sound like they are grinding, especially when the car has been sitting for a while. I only have 59000k on the car. They tell me nothing is wrong, but it is sure unsettling!

Summary:

Good value for your money

Faults:

Ran out of oil within 3 months of owning it (? sump plug not correctly fitted) +? whether it ever had much oil in it in the first place.

General Comments:

No remote locking or alarm.

Cheap car, therefore excellent value for money - but disastrous depreciation.

Re the oil issue, dealer completely uninterested.

Clarion CD player with very good sound quality; until the lack of alarm and security in general allowed someone to smash the window and nick the thing without attracting any attention, in a busy car park in daylight!!

2001 Hyundai Accent Si 1.3 Injection

Summary:

A treat for anyone

Faults:

I have experienced no faults with my Hyundai to date.

Any problems have all been wear faults. Such as; tyres, brake pads, etc.

General Comments:

Although the car is not of the highest quality compared to a BMW, but put it aside a car of similar price and it is by far best car in it's class.

Modifying a Hyundai is not easy either. But if you're serious and are willing to put in the leg work, you can find plenty of places willing to lend a hand to personalize your Hyundai.
