1992 Mazda 323 F BG GTi 1.8 EFi

Summary:

Brilliant

Faults:

Cam belt snapped last year. Bought a new one for £25 and fitted it (easy). (Engine is non-interference).

Fitted new tail pipe 3 years ago for MOT.

Driver's electric window needs a new motor.

Driver's seat a little worn on RH back.

Gave it a service last month, LOL.

General Comments:

Amazing car. So reliable. Always starts first time.

Plod it around town, and it is so economical.

Put the pedal to the metal, and there ain't much that can catch it!!

Still looks good for an 18 year old car.

No rust at all underneath or the body. Just a few spots on the electric sunroof.

Doesn't use oil.

Always passes its MOT.

PS.

I am still using it every day (Aug 2011).

1992 Mazda 323 F GLX SR 1.6 16v

Summary:

Reliable

Faults:

Nothing major has gone wrong with the car.

The driver's side CV joint had to be replaced at 60300 miles, apparently due to the very good turning circle which stretches the joint to the limit.

The central locking on the rear doors refused to work during last Winter, but seemed to sort itself out at the beginning of Spring.

I have recently been having problems with opening the driver's door from the inside, I have to wind down the window and reach out to the exterior handle. I will probably get around to fixing it soon.

General Comments:

Positives.

On the whole, I have to say that this has been the best car I have I have ever owned.

Considering the design is now 13 years old, it doesn't look dated. In fact I think they are fantastic looking cars, especially with the pop-up lights on.

0 to 60 mph in approx 10 seconds and a top speed of approx 115 mph, isn't bad for 88 HP.

Third gear acceleration at 50mph is almost sports like, which makes overtaking caravans a piece of cake.

It handles extremely well, with very responsive steering.

Average fuel consumption calculated since owning the car has been 32mpg.

This car is RELIABLE, it has never let me down.

Negatives.

I am 5 foot 11 and I need to have the seat as far back as it will go, which doesn't leave much leg room for rear passengers.

There is hardly any storage space in the passenger compartment.

Spare parts are fairly expensive, the exhaust system (not including the cat) cost me £295.

1992 Mazda 323 F GLX s/r 1.6

Faults:

Exhausts, popup light, brake calipers seized, electric window, door seal, battery died, anti-roll linkage snapped.

Not really too bad considering age Oct92 and mileage > 80,000 miles.

General Comments:

Great car, utterly reliable, none of the things that have gone wrong have ever stopped it running - wee bit of a sheep in wolf's clothing - boot is a goodish size but the high lip makes getting a pram in and out difficult. A bit noisy @ 4000 rpm - lumpy idle at Mazda specified speed. Expensive servicing/insurance.

Stored outside - no rust at all.

I owned a J reg Mazda 323F GLX last year and found the car to be a great drive. It stuck to the road like nothing I've ever driven before. It easily did 110mph and JUST carried on to reach 125mph.Reliability was always an issue with my car. I got through 3 clutches (i ragged it a abit).I had trouble with drive shafts. ball joints, electrics, gearbox, shocks and brakes. All of that went wrong in the 9 months I had it. I guess that's what happens when you buy a 270,000 mile car for £150.Bodywork was rough after fights with a wall, Fiesta and a sheep. It was a great car-especially the pop up headlights!!!

So hi, I`m from Bulgaria- a small country in which the cars are not so cheap. So I`m now a proud owner of a 323f 1992.I bought it from Germany for about 1500 euro...it`s on 186 000 and it runs nice and your is 80 000 and have many failure so that`s strange.

Nothing. I have had the car for 3 years and it has now done over 80,000 miles. General wear and tear, tyres, brakes etc.

Excellent car. Great performance for a 1.3 and very economical. Stereo could have been better though.
