1992 Mazda 626 GLX 1.8

Summary:

A great car

Faults:

Brake Pads went, cost E40 each plus costs.

General Comments:

Great if a bit on the big side engine wise for my first car.

Great power, not bad on petrol considering I was doing up to 450 miles per week and driving it quite hard.

Very robust. It was great value though.

1992 Mazda 626 2.0i 16 estate 2.0 injection

Summary:

Go on, be different

Faults:

The only problems I've had with the car was I had to have the brake discs skimmed, although now my problem is more serious as the head gasket has gone and I get silly quotations off garages to fix the problem.

Body wise, the good point is the only rust is from vandal damage, front wing and estate rear door, shame.

General Comments:

For an estate it's quite understated and performance-wise it's pretty quick off the mark, cruise control is a bonus, especially on motorway journeys.

The fact that it is also a 7-seater is useful as I have three growing boys.

Got a Mazda 626 2.0i 16 Estate (1992) as an import from UK and the car is really good. Its like new. Performance, extra features like cruise control etc make me like this model. Will stick to Mazda. Performing well in Zimbabwe!!!

1992 Mazda 626 GLX 2.0

Summary:

Executive class bargain

Faults:

Rear brake calipers failed, apparently this is a known fault with the 626.

I seem to have a loose connection in a few of the warning lights in the dash.

General Comments:

Powerful, comfortable car.

Very poor mpg in the city, but excellent mpg on the open road. At home on the motorway.

Cornering pretty poor, but you don't buy a car this size for rallying!

These cars DO NOT hold their value here in Ireland. Very cheap second hand. Can't understand why. Good car for money.

1992 Mazda 626 GT V6 2.5i 24V petrol

Faults:

Nothing.

General Comments:

Powerful and refined. 140+ mph rare car. Very reliable and sleekly designed. Sound quality, I will keep my car for years and it had decades of years left on it even though it has done 143K miles! Highly, highly recommended.

Yeah, expect to replace the auto gear box at about 160,000 miles or so if it hasn't been already.

Cambelt change is essential.

Otherwise problem free.

Jj.

1992 Mazda 626 GLX injection saloon 2.0 petrol

Faults:

Replaced fuel pump, timing belt & clutch changed, 2 cv joints, camshaft seal leaks cannot be cured, childlocks won't disengage, changed one rear shock.

General Comments:

My car has 152,000 miles on it, enginegearbox are still perfect, no rust on body. Smashing car, would buy another, electric gizmos work as well as when the car was new. Seat could be more comfortable, the engine is powerful enough for my needs, addition of a rear windscreen wiper would be a great, parts are a tad expensive eg £6.50 for a digital clock bulb.

I have a 1992 1.8i GLX which has done 149,000 miles and I tend to agree with this gentlemans comments. It is an exceptional car and I believe that it is somewhat under-rated by British car critics. As said in the previous comments it is an expensive car to maintain.

These are good cars let down by poor rear brake callipers, which have the tendency to seize up. Other than that, I had one with 14000 miles and it was so quiet I had to every now and then tap the throttle to see if the engine was still running.

The back seat had masses of space. A beautiful car overall.
