1999 MG F Supercharged VVC 1.8

Summary:

Oh yeah!

Faults:

Nothing as yet... Head was replaced by the previous owner, but this is common fault on 1.8 K series engine as most Freelander owners know!

General Comments:

Absolutly astounding! The 1.8vvc was never the most powerful, but seeing as this has had a turbo technics overhaul, including supercharger, it's like a rocket! Granted I'm 6'2 and only just squeeze in the car itself, but with 220hp on tap in something that weighs a tonne is not bad going!

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Don't Know

1999 MG F VVC 1.8

Summary:

I love the car to bits despite a few niggles and "varied" dealer service

Faults:

A few niggles.

Mild problems with the hood getting two small holes in it caused by getting trapped in the hood mechanism. Still got the two small holes. They don't leak, but don't look good. Happened only last year ('04).

Head gasket blew at around 50,000 miles. Repaired quickly and cheaply by specialist. Took advantage of the situation and got the head gas flowed at the same time.

I managed to break the brakes on a track day in '03. The calliper was simply put under too much repetitive stress on the track. Ooops. Brakes replaced at the front with upgraded calipers.

General Comments:

The car is badly setup from scratch by the dealers.

Every driver should get the car (suspension) setup professionally if at all possible. It improves handling and safety. Well worth every penny.

There is a wonderful MG scene on the web who will help with advice if you need it.

The car is a fantastic compromise sports car. It handles very well while staying comfortable.

1999 MG F VVC 1.8 petrol

Summary:

Bags of Fun

Faults:

I have had no problems with this car apart from self inflicted ones, like losing it a few times round bends in the wet, but that just adds to the fun.

Oh and reverse gear can be a bit difficult sometimes.

General Comments:

Before I bought this car I test drove the Mazda, Alfa Spider, Megane, Lotus Elise and nasty Z3, and so far have not regretted my choice for a minute.

My car has been a dream however other people that I know who own them have not been so lucky with reliability.

I wouldn't buy another car from Rover because I get bored with the same car for too long and Rover don't make any other nice cars.
