2004 MG ZR 105+ 1.4

Summary:

Cool looks fast, maybe a bit unreliable

Faults:

Well thankfully I have not had many problems; only the car pulling to the left most of the time.

Also the boot locking and unlocking while driving (only in the rain tho); weird.

General Comments:

Looks amazing. Definitely a head turner with its body kit and 17s on it.

I think it looks great inside, and it's a very comfortable ride with the awesome bucket seats.

Also, there is a certain way to the performance of this car; it loves to rev high, 1st and 2nd gear are its best gears. 2nd gear is a bit slow to start of with, but is very fast when it picks up.

If you want to be fast off the mark, rev high in 1st, then when you change up, it will be in the fast part of 2nd. I've had under 10 seconds by doing this.

A very quick car; remember it is only a 1.4. I'm no boy racer; I have just tested this.

2004 MG ZR TD+ 115 2.0 turbo diesel

Summary:

Fandabbydosey... Always smiling when I'm driving!

Faults:

Offside (Drivers) central-locking grates when car is locked. (Must get it sorted!)

Boot light doesn't work. (Clueless, and yes I have checked the bulb!)

Slight scuffing on leather seats (Barely noticeable, in-fact I didn't notice, the missus did!)

General Comments:

I am so happy with this car! I'm a young lad, 24, and this car is spot on for young guys and gals. I went for the top of the range diesel model because for the money you pay (v.cheap) you might as well get the most for your money.

The car handles superbly and is definitely poky for a diesel, much better than my previous cars ('95 Rover Metro 1.0, '99 Ford Ka 1.3, '97 Renault Megane Coupe 1.6) and returns a good 420 miles for a £35 tank of petrol (Remember this is a 2.0TD!). So much better than my Megane which only did 350 miles for the same amount of cash (a 1.6 Petrol).

You can definitely tell it's a diesel when you start the car, but once you're above 20mph you could easily forget the car isn't a petrol.

Only thing that really annoys me about this car is once you go over 5mph the car locks itself, but doesn't unlock itself when you go back below 5mpg again, so a nightmare for dropping somebody off cos you have to turn the engine off to let the doors unlock then restart to go...grrr...what a nightmare!

2004 MG ZR 105+ 1.4

Summary:

Sheep in wolfs clothing

Faults:

Re occuring problem with the boot unlocking as the car is driven along. This primarily happens in wet weather or heavy rain.

General Comments:

The car looks great from the outside and the inside has its plus points also. The seats are comfortable and a great steering wheel, but the rest is pretty cheap. The plastics are very suspect and the dials and radio are badly placed. Great around corners-handling superb, but acceleration poor.

My girlfriend's MG ZR has the exact same problem with her boot unlocking whilst she is driving. It's a bit of a concern, especially when the dog is in the back, for obvious reasons!!!

We've managed to pinpoint when it happens to, wait for it, only when the wipers are on the intermittent setting! Strange or what? I can only imagine that there's some crossover in the frequencies used for this wiper setting and the automatic boot release on the key fob. That sounds even more ridiculous now that I've typed it, but I cannot think of anything else.

Does anyone else have any experience of similar or identical problems, and how to get them fixed?

Hi, I know your posts have been here for a fair bit nearly a year exact, but I have recently purchased an MG ZR 105+ on an 2004 plate. Whilst driving this yesterday during the pouring rain, my boot unlocked and opened whilst I was going along quite happily. I have contacted the dealer who sold me the car and they are taking the car in next week. Did you finally resolve the problem with your boot and if so what is it? this would be really helpful if I could pin point this problem to the garage so it can be resolved quickly. Many Thanks.
