2000 Seat Ibiza Vibe 1.4

Faults:

I have had 4 servo pipes on this car, a known fault, but nonetheless I found this problem quite frightening. The one I have fitted now seems to be okay. On one occasion the servo failed, and I was traveling through some traffic lights, and had to use the handbrake to stop the car once through the lights.

Gearbox failed at 54 000, had a re-conditioned one fitted, managed to buy it for 185 pounds + 75 for fitting. Seat quoted 1200 for gearbox plus 350 labour, plus 300 to import gearbox, which they said I would get back!!

Had numerous sensors fitted, which seem to fail frequently, namely lambda and cold temperature sensor.

Cam belt fitted at 17 000 when I bought car, cam belt failed at 80 000, even though manufacturers book states 120 000. On contacting Seat, they said that they were advising customers to change it at 50 000. I have never received a letter advising me of this. They have my details as they advised about the servo pipe failure!

Clutch problems - very heavy. Needs a lot of gas to move the car!.

Pedal box has split - this has been welded at a local garage, apparently this is a common problem according to the garage I took it to. Seat quoted 500 pounds to replace.

Someone crashed in to the car, and the car required extensive repairs to it, the parts had to be ordered, and all in all, the car was off the road for over 2 months due to the wait for parts. Lucky for me that someone hit me and I was able to claim for the hire car from the other party.

In short, this car has been a complete nightmare from start to finish.

I had lots of problems like you with my 2000 1.6 Sport Ibiza, and starting problems because of bad sensors, air con not working.

They are really poorly built and I expected better from VW, but VW are garbage, like the Polo I had previously, and their after sales service is non existent, and service charges are very high.

I now drive a 2004 Honda 1.6 SE Civic, and it is amazing. Nothing has failed on it, and the service charges are nearly half what I was paying at the main dealer, a better package all round. VW are relying on their past glory with the Beetle, and need to sharpen up their act.

2000 Seat Ibiza Stella 1.0Mpi

Summary:

A real money saver

Faults:

I have replaced clutch pedal/pedal box twice, but it keeps snapping (supposedly known to be a problem in 1 litre Ibiza's and VW Polo's.

Stereo buttons keep breaking.

The rubber on the spark plug leads keep wearing away.

Interior panels rattling on bad roads.

General Comments:

Although only a 1 litre, it will keep up with most cars up to 1.4 (up to 60mph).

Handles very well on bends.

Cheap to tax, insure and run on petrol.

Besides spark plugs which aren't too dear, I haven't spent a penny on engine work besides servicing and t-belt.

The most stylish 1 litre I've seen (especially with after market parts).

2000 Seat Ibiza Stella 1.4

Summary:

Overall, I do like this car

Faults:

Rear electric window mechanism failed when door was shut.

Radio selection button on center console no longer switches between radio bands - it selects CD function instead.

The lights on the center console switch on after then engine has been switched off and the key removed from ignition. Does anyone know how to fix this? a dealer said it was a known problem.
