1998 Seat Toledo SE Signum 1.9 diesel

Summary:

Good value, reliable, but basic inside

Faults:

The remote control for central locking has become unreliable.

The radio developed an intermittent fault and then stopped working completely.

Some internal plastic fittings have broken off.

General Comments:

The internal fittings are basic and can't really take normal wear and tear for family car.

The car is sluggish on take-off (e.g. at lights etc.) but fine for cruising.

The hatchback model that I have has a very roomy boot and very useful space with the back seats folded down.

A Simple car for Do-It-Yourself servicing (i.e. oil and filters).

Due to the shape of the car, it is very difficult to get children in and out of a car seat without straining your back.

1998 Seat Toledo SE/Magnum 2.0 petrol

Summary:

A well-equipped quality car at a very good price

Faults:

Boot light switch broken.

General Comments:

Bought new in the UK, but Australian spec.

A very good reliable car which is a pleasure to drive despite it being a bit noisy. Auto gearbox is very good. Petrol consumption good on long journies when driven gently (37 mpg) but poor round town.

Lots of men's toys, and they all work well - AC, ABS etc Good thought is the three interior lights. Great boot.

Problems. Nowhere to rest my left foot on my RHD version, but have put wedge of foam under the mat. Poor minor storage. No street cred.

Used to own Rovers, and the Seat is the first rattle-free car I have had. It is also the most reliable.

Would buy another at the right price.
