Head gasket blew (rather dramatically), oil pump needed replacing.
This car was fab! I had it for almost seven years. It gave excellent service - it went pretty much the length and breadth of the country, and I still see it on the road today!

Engine cutting out when idle - carburettor switch needed replacing (£5).
Slight oil leak.
Some rusting of rear suspension mounts (£70 fix for MOT).
Superb car, full of character & great fun to drive.
Unbelievably cheap to buy & run.
Not ideal on the motorway - lacks power & is quite noisy.
Very reliable - always starts & goes forever.
Forget the jokes, this is the most affordable form of motoring.

It suffered periodic overheating in the last few months I owned it, eventually traced to a cracked cylinder block (probably due to previous owner not using enough antifreeze). Otherwise it ran well. Drivers side door lock broke on a frosty morning. Never seemed worth fixing.
A good car. A bit short on straight-line performance (the 1.2 would be better) but possessed of a good ride, good interior space, good seats and the best steering money can buy. A cheap fun car.
If you're only used to front-drive cars the handling can need care on wet roads. If you're used to rear engined cars it's a joy.

If the engine overheats, try replacing the cap on the expansion container next to the engine, or the thermostat. Both very cheap, and when done on time, it prevents your cylinder head from cracking. Most times these heads crack, it's because of not paying attention on these small details. The Skoda 105's we owned through the years, had nothing going wrong in years, and were incredible reliable and fun to drive.

If your 105 is overheating, try to turn the heat fully on and just open the windows. It is easy and it works. It is also good idea to make a switch to turn on the cooling vent manually.
