2006 Volkswagen Touran TDI Sport 2.0 turbo diesel

Summary:

Good quality and performance, with a high residual value

Faults:

Nothing as yet.

General Comments:

Handling: very agile for an MPV.

The 2.0L TDI engine is very torquey and free revving

Driving: The car, with its six speed gearbox, goes up through the cogs very easily (beware). Before you know it, you're breaking the law on the motorways.

The engine cruises very nicely, great for long distances. Have got up to 56 MPG if I drive it with care. Nevertheless, the high 40s is an average for me on dual carriageways and motorways. Around town this drops to high 30s and low 40s; good for a car that weighs 1561kg.

To recap: If you're looking for a quality MPV, look no further.

p.s. I bet the new 170PS diesel will be amazing.

2006 Volkswagen Touran SE 1.9 TDI

Summary:

All in all - very nice and pleasing to both own and drive

General Comments:

Very comfortable vehicle to drive.

Terrible problem when opening doors in wet weather - may as well throw half a bucket of water over the seats - really poor design!!! BIG FAILURE.

I thought exactly the same before I bought a VW Touran 2.0 TDI (140) with 42,000 miles from new.

The MPG good is.

Being honest though, they are very uncomfortable, both to drive and be a passenger in.

It's poorly built.

Very unreliable.

So far in the 6 months we have had it:

New glow plugs, new DMF and clutch, turbo now going, lots of electrical faults. Eats tyres for fun, although the tracking and camber are spot on.

I believe VW are living on their past reputation. I would never ever buy another VAG car.

My 8 year old Saab with 140,000 miles on it is spot on. My VW, well...
