1986 Buick Electra T-Type 3.8 PFI from North America

Summary:

GM messed up when they quit making these things!

Faults:

When I got the car the starter was bad.

I have had to clean out the insides of the power window and mirror switches.

I recently had to replace the alternator.

Most recently the radio died, but I used it as an excuse to enter "the CD age".

General Comments:

This vehicle is really comfortable, with wide seats, killer A/C, good quality sound from the speakers, and power everything.

The combination of new tech (overdrive, fuel injection, DIS) with the old (no annoying airbags, 4 glass headlights) is perfect as far as I'm concerned.

1986 Buick Electra 3.8 Liter V6 from North America

Summary:

Comfort and reliability from a long running quality car manufacturer

Faults:

When I aquired this car from the original owners teenage son for free in 1995, this kid had obviously beat on this cars drivetrain. The transmission was burned out in it, but the rest of the car was very clean and it ran very nice. I had the transmission rebuilt for about 300.00 and it never failed again.

The alternator bearing seized in 1999 and I easily replaced that myself for about 30.00.

General Comments:

This was one of the most reliable cars I have ever owned. It had lots of power from the 3.8 liter V6 engine and was always reliable. Gas mileage was great at about 23 mpg using 87 unleaded. Very affordable car for teenagers with some styling and lots of space and comfort.
