1998 Fiat Bravo SX 1.6 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Very good fun car worth having!!!

Faults:

Nothing has gone wrong very good car.

General Comments:

Very good car part from having to reset ecu unit when induction kit was taking off.

If you need to know how to do this just disconnect - on battery for 45 minutes reconnect start car, but don't rev for 5 minutes and factory settings will be restored.

I find that this model is better on fuel than the 1.4 model.

1998 Fiat Bravo HGT 2.0 20V from Serbia

Faults:

The cooling system gave me lots of problems. Finally I renewed everything, but it cost over 300 euros. Still when driving long periods toward hills engine heats up close to the red zone.

Had to replace belts as soon as I bought it. close to 500 euros for this.

Exhaust problems. will have to replace everything.

General Comments:

The car is very lively, gives excellent performance. It's a big petrol spender in the city, but on highways it goes down to about 8.5l/100km which is very resonable considering the power it gives.

The engine makes a crazy sound like a race car.

1998 Fiat Bravo SX 1.4 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Good looking, great ride, but not bulletproof

Faults:

Brake master cylinder is leaking and needs replacing soon.

Manifold-down pipe gasket on exhaust blowing.

Steering rack gaiters have split.

General Comments:

The car is reliable and runs very well, however the build quality is now starting to show through.

The interior has a few rattles and squeaks, but that is to be expected in a 6-year-old car.

The brake master cylinder has now started to leak which is very worrying as the brakes fade very fast on hills.

The brakes also squeak very often now, had solved the problem temporarily with copper grease, but its since returned.

The gaiters on the power steering rack have split, allowing some power steering fluid to leak.

On the whole though I am very pleased with the car, the ride is comfortable, the 1.4 engine is nippy with good rev range, not thirsty on petrol, and the handling is very satisfying.

The boot is also very useful, with seats folded flat I could easily fit two washing machines in the back!

Bodywork repairs were expensive when a cyclist hit me on the front end, but the car is Italian so the parts are pricey.

No serious faults so far though, with regular maintenance I'm sure the car will stay reliable until I change it.

Turned out that the master cylinder wasn't at fault, but it was the other brake pipe that split, but the split was being held together by the connecting ring to the brake union, so the brake fluid wasn't leaking, but pressure was draining away. Changed the exhaust gasket and I noticed the pipe started bleeding while I was under the car.

1998 Fiat Bravo SX 1.4 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

I was totally in love with my car for the first year despite it not being as quick as my XR2

Faults:

After 3 years the car started to let rain water in. It's been to three different garages, 1 fiat dealership, 2 non fiat garages, its been stripped down, water poured over it and drains unblocked, but still the problem remains.

Also at the beginning of this year (2003) the sunroof packed up and refuses to open.

General Comments:

It's a pretty car and very roomy even with four people in it which is good for me as I'm 5ft 10 without heels.

I found the ability to adjust my seat height and the steering wheel height has eliminated the pain I used to suffer in my knees.
