1993 Lexus LS 400 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Mileage irrelevant, maintenance is all. A true great

Faults:

Rear wheel bearings.

Starter motor failure.

Instruments stick at zero until interior warms up.

General Comments:

This car was very cheaply bought because of its high mileage, but it had been well looked after, and is still fast, smooth and silent.

Drivers seat and steering wheel show their age, but overall appearance and functionality are still very good.

The few repairs needed have been expensive, way over the cars value, but if I like it (well, I love it!) then I won't throw it away.

There is no rust, it polishes up well (glass-like dark green) and does 20 mpg daily, 25 on a run.

1993 Lexus LS 400 V8 4.0 from North America

Summary:

Lexus wanted to make a car that would run forever, and that car is the LS400

Faults:

O2 sensor went bad after a few hundred miles of ownership. Cost $23 to fix it :)

General Comments:

Most solid car I have ever owned. Solid meaning it holds the road very well and doesn't have any annoying creaks or rattles. The interior was build well with no cheap plastic.

I just fully serviced the vehicle after buying it, and it rides like a dream; idles perfectly and feels great.

The only thing I don't like about this car is the gas mileage, but I think the good dominates the bad with this car. I know of at least 5 other guys who own this car and they all love it. None of us have ever had any serious problems with it.

I honestly feel like this car is going to run forever. 180,000 miles on the clock and it runs better than any other car I have driven.

1993 Lexus LS 400 4.0 from North America

Summary:

Will make a great first car!

Faults:

The lights on the cluster and dash don't work when the headlights are turned on. Eventually they will flash and go on. Lexus says this is a common problem and will be about $1500.00 to repair. Brakes needed to be done along with an oil change which was about $500.00. The seats are a little worn, but it doesn't bother me.

General Comments:

This car is amazing. I had always wanted a Lexus because my parents drove only Lexus. For my 18th birthday I got this LS400. The car is so quiet. Performance for such a heavy car is great. It feels like I'm riding on air. The sound system isn't all that great, but it gets the job done. Having things done at the Lexus dealer can be pricey, but since the previous owner had done every service on time and at Lexus I decided I would do the same. This car will go for another 200,000.

I had the same problem with the dash lights, but found a place on ebay and sent it to them and now they work fine. I am the original owner and have put 220,000 on this car with no major problems. I didn't drive this car much when I first bought it. In 2000 when I started driving the Lexus more it had 96000miles. I drive around 350 miles a day say most miles are highway. Car is great overall, the seats could be a little better.

Mine has done 418,000 kilometers in Canada - winters, salt etc - and has at the moment the ORIGINAL UPPER CONTROL ARMS replaced!!!

I have the same problem with the dashboard lights and my A/C control panel is not showing anything at all - not a big deal!

I am VERY HAPPY with my sound system - Nakamichi with a 6 CD changer in the trunk - producing an absolutely great sound, considering that we are talking about a 17 year old car!

My leather interior is holding up very well - I am 6'6" and roughly 225 lbs - there are no rips in the seats or the door panels.

I only wish the car would not need premium gas, but otherwise it is right up at the same levels as my BMW 535i or my Mercedes 300TE were - simply a GREAT CAR!

1993 Lexus LS 400 5.0 from North America

Summary:

Luxury, quality, bargain

Faults:

Besides normal wear and tear items like tires, brakes, belts, hoses, battery, and wiper blades, the only replacement has been most recently I had the driver's seat bolster leather replaced.

General Comments:

Cabin is quiet, engine is excellent and powerful for a car its size, along with excellent fuel economy of around 23 city/29 highway.

1993 Lexus LS 400 4.0 V8 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

A true luxury express, with compete reliability thrown in

Faults:

Main beam light bulb replaced at 98,000 miles.

General Comments:

For a car of it's size and weight, the LS400 is very quick.

Although the leather looks a bit like plastic, the cabin is an extremely nice place to be.

I like the little things that make ownership such a pleasure.

Such as the fact that the air conditioning kicks in within seconds of starting the engine.

Or, that the rear window starts to de-mist before I have had time to fasten my seat belt and select reverse to back out of my drive.
