1974 Mercedes-Benz S-Class 450 SEL 4.5 from North America

Summary:

Fast, sleek and agile Benz

Faults:

Rear end of car, drivers tail light was wrecked. Fixed over a month period with bondo and replacement light and rear deck lid.

Power front window regulator in-op.

Worn/torn drivers seat.

Cheap repaint job is peeling, needs to be done correctly.

General Comments:

This car is very quick and nimble for a big 70's model.

German build quality is 2nd to none.

Paid 400 for, this is a steal.

I've added new tires and a tune up and fluid changes and new brakes.

Very roomy, has original Becker radio. I've had to replace rear speakers, but sound is adequate for this age of car.

Gas is pricey because it takes Super.

1974 Mercedes-Benz S-Class 280 S 2.8 from Iran

Summary:

It is the prince of the roads

Faults:

Absolutely nothing has gone wrong with it until now (touching wood).

General Comments:

If you have ever driven a 280 S Mercedes Benz, you know that there is no other car you want to drive. It is strong, comfortable, cost efficient, classic, reliable, safe, and all the good things in one. It is just perfect. Traveling by this car is probably more comfortable than traveling by plane.

1974 Mercedes-Benz S-Class 280SE 2.8 Litre petrol from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

Classic collector's car

Faults:

Blown motor 2 weeks after I bought it. Replaced the motor with a new one for $4000. Chrome parts are impossible to find.

General Comments:

Great car for older drivers and Mercedes Benz collectors, very comfortable and great for cruising on Sunday drives.

Dash in German labels, hard to understand.

1974 Mercedes-Benz S-Class 280SE 2.8 from Austria

Summary:

An affordable high-class car

Faults:

The central locking system is a bit weak...that's all!

General Comments:

After 27 years this car looks like it would be new... and that's how it goes. Power windows, air condition and power steering are working like on their first day. Absolutely no rust!!

Very comfortable and silent car with much space inside.

Spare parts (if you will ever need some) are easy to get and not that expensive.

Fuel consumption is OK for a car of this size and age: 12-20l/100km.

Insurance for this car is very cheap in my country because the Benz is more than 25 years old... I think it is the same in most countries.

Very good looking car with character.

Can be very fast if you want to (205km/h is no problem).
