Faults:

Diesel particulate filter obstruction.

Oil dilution: Diesel fuel from incomplete cycles drains into the crankcase, raising the oil level and reducing lubrication.

Cold-start problems.

Using an incorrect gasket thickness after a repair leads to serious compression failures.

Difficulty diagnosing low-to-high pressure fuel flow.

General Comments:

The pickup features a design similar to previous L-200 models, with just a slightly rounded look. To me, it is one of the best-looking Japanese pickups—even better than the Hilux.

Materials and finishes are high-quality, a fact evident to both the eye and the touch. As with most modern pickups, the traditional gear selector has been replaced by a rotary dial. The steering wheel also holds a surprise: large magnesium paddle shifters. They suit the vehicle well and stand out alongside the instrument cluster, though it is worth noting that they remain fixed in place rather than rotating with the steering wheel.

Driving position is outstanding for a pickup; thanks to a steering column adjustable for both height and reach and a comfortable, power-adjustable seat, I feel as though I am in a comfortable SUV—with a vantage point that offers a wide view of the road. Furthermore, the support is perfect, holding the body firmly in place and preventing it from shifting, especially when cornering or maneuvering over uneven terrain.

In terms of interior space, it offers the room needed for five adult passengers to travel comfortably, with ample legroom and generous headroom for taller occupants.

The dashboard is simple and understated, yet easy to read.

While vehicles of this type have always been rugged, this one now incorporates features that place it on par with any luxury car. For instance, it includes a 6.1-inch Kenwood touchscreen multimedia display with navigation, a rearview camera, Bluetooth connectivity, and a CD/DVD player. It is worth noting that the vehicle is fast, agile, and easy to operate. Additionally, the audio system delivers sound through four speakers and two tweeters.

It's equipped with all the necessary systems to prevent loss of traction, deviation from the intended path, and unforeseen situations. Notable features include traction control (which brakes spinning wheels and regulates engine power) and stability control (which minimizes instability and wheel skidding). It also includes hill-start assist (ideal for this type of vehicle, especially when carrying a load) though it lacks hill-descent control. The anti-lock braking system (ABS) is complemented by EBD, which electronically distributes braking force when the pickup is carrying multiple passengers or a heavy load.

The 2.4 turbodiesel engine is comfortable to drive in any setting (from city streets to dirt roads and highways) and offers relatively low fuel consumption. To date, the engine hasn't given any trouble, despite being a modern diesel (with all the potential risks that entails).

A strong and reliable mid-size pickup; if you buy it brand new, as I did, you won't have any problems for many years.
