1990 Nissan Micra LS 1.0 petrol from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Reliable run-around for town driving, but not for long distances

Faults:

Needed new tires when purchased.

Rear number plate fell off, due to rust around the screws on the bodywork.

Parcel shelf hinges snapped.

Gear box seized up at 68000 miles, then I sold it.

General Comments:

This was a very reliable car for the most part while I owned it. Being a 1 litre, it struggled with slight inclines, and don't even mention filling it with people!

Very cheap and flimsy trim, made fitting new speakers difficult.

Heavy steering for such a small car, I certainly got strong arms from driving this car!

Bad cabin noise, especially at speed. Struggles over 70mph mark.

Will go pretty quick if you push the engine hard enough though.

1990 Nissan Micra LS 1.0L from UK and Ireland

Summary:

A car with sit-up-and-beg characteristics, with bullet-proof dependability

Faults:

Superficial rusting of some body panels.

Offside headlight needed replaced.

General Comments:

This car has been remarkably dependable by the three members of my family who have happily used it and has it remained an effective run-around despite the passing years.

The paintwork is bright and shiny, but only recently has the superficial rusting been a slight problem - easily overcome by ensuring it is repaired!

1990 Nissan Micra Limited Edtion 1.0 Litre petrol 4-Speed from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Cheap, reliable first car, ideal for city use, but not for 100+ mile journeys

Faults:

Ignition Coil failed.

Rear windows wiper motor failed.

Starter motor is also on the way out.

Other than that, it seems to be fine.

General Comments:

A great little car, for a car of its age, it still starts on first turn, even in cold weather. One thing though I don't like with it is the 4-speed gearbox, many other versions had 5 gears, this will increase fuel consumption, and decrease performance at higher speeds. It is a comfortable ride, with all the basic amenities. The body work also held its shine over the years, and still comes out lovely when you wash & wax it. There are a few very small rust spots, but nothing a spot of paint wouldn't hurt. You can't go wrong for

1990 Nissan Micra GS 1.2 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Ultra reliable BARGAIN

Faults:

Nothing, has gone wrong with the car so far! Only thing that is worrying me is there is some rust starting to show through on the O/S sill and N/S/F wing. Won't cost much to rectify tho, I work at a Nissan Dealership!

General Comments:

Excellent value for money! It cost me £260 from a dealer trade in, it had only two other owners since new was in brilliant condition and the previous owner had replaced quite a few things before trading it in. (Clutch, Radiator, Battery, Coil, Dizzy Cap, Rotor Arm, HT leads, Plugs etc...)

Surprisingly quick performance from a 1.2 8v, 14 year old car, 112mph (approx!!) top speed, the Downside is it is VERY spongy on the corners..

1990 Nissan Micra LS 1.0 petrol from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Underestimated granny car

Faults:

Slight rust above wheel arches.

General Comments:

For a 1.0L car this is quite quick its only 4 speed, but gets up to 60mph quicker then the stated 18 seconds I have read. I learned in a 1.1 Polo and my Micra is a lot faster. I manage 45mph out of second gear which for a 4-speed is very good. Going downhill the car has went off the clock... over 100MPH! although on the flat it tends to push for 90 at best. I would say this is a great first car as its my own first car. Next a Swift GTi :D.

1990 Nissan Micra 1.0 litre in-line 4 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Cheap at €500, reliable, but terrible engine performance

Faults:

Ran out of petrol once, and I got a flat wheel.

Other than that, nothing so far.

General Comments:

This car is terrible. It only produces 55hp, and has a top speed of 90mph. For a car with so many miles on the clock, it is still gong well, starting on the first turn, however, the car probably will only last about another 10-15000 miles before it packs in.

And running out of petrol is your own fault..

55 bhp and you are complaining about 90 mph? Pretty good, I say.

1990 Nissan Micra L 1.0 petrol from UK and Ireland

Faults:

Loads of front tyres, clutch, starter and brake discs. All over 45,000 miles, 3 learner drivers and 5 years. Mostly due to me badly mistreating the car.

General Comments:

A dealer said he needed 9 days to replace a headlamp bulb. Other than that this car got one pennyless student around for years without any real expense or worries. I guess that's why I just bought another Nissan.

1990 Nissan Micra GSX 1.2 petrol from UK and Ireland

Faults:

Synchroniser ring (in gearbox) cracked. Replaced under extended warranty.

Bit heavy on exhaust pipes.

General Comments:

Tyre wear is excellent. Hardly ever need to change them.

Rear seats are very uncomfortable. Front ones are OK.

No rust yet, even on a door scratched down to bare metal on the first day I got it... and I live by the sea!

Good visibility.

Starts first time.
