1992 Nissan Micra L 1.0 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

FANTASTIC

Faults:

I cannot think of anything wrong with this car, as my first car its not the best, but it's a great wee car.

General Comments:

For a 1.0 performance can be quite surprising. Especially if your by yourself. Once you get passengers, you certainly notice the difference.

The seats are quite comfortable considering size of car. Steering wheel is too big for my liking though, I tend to drive with just one hand on because it feels daft.

This is my first car and I am very pleased with it. Its cheap, reliable and quite fun to drive. I have the 4 speed manual box and I find it quick in all gears, can do around 32mph in 1st.

Also, when I bought the car it had the standard stereo and one speaker. So I now have a CD player and 2 clarion speakers (100w each) in parcel shelf. Sounds Excellent.

The car when my brother first got it had the standard one speaker and radio only. As soon as he got me insured that was soon changed, a CD tuner and 2 speakers were soon installed, but it needs some speakers in the parcel shelf.

As has been said in a previous comment driving with one hand is very tempting because the steering wheel is that big, but very comfortable.

Not many complaints about it except when I go round a roundabout in second gear I can kick the back end out not bad for showboating, but in rush hour traffic it is not that fun. I only have one recollection of having to top up the oil and replace a head lamp bulb. It is very reliable and can be very fun to drive.

I love it and to be honest I do not think I will sell it. It is just too much fun.

1992 Nissan Micra L 1.0 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

A tough, reliable, powerful car that gets good mileage

Faults:

Has never failed on me.

Exaust rusted through.

Side + rear plate lights blew.

Distributer and cables replaced.

I get the oil changed every 3000 miles as it greatly reduces engine ware.

Make sure to change your air filter often, it will improve mileage + performance.

I regularly service the car to prevent breakdowns.

General Comments:

Well I got to say this is one rugged beast of a car. I've driven that thing into the ground and it still keeps going. I've used the car for high speed off road rally use and it handles really well. I rev the guts out of that thing, I've bolted my own rev counter on the dash and revved it way beyond 8000RPM. I'd recommend getting a K&N Induction kit as it's greatly improved my mileage and performance - plus it sounds amazing.

I do hate the steering wheel I have to say. It really gets in the way it's so big. The radio it came with I tore out and replace it with a pioneer and a X plod sub in the boot. Now I got no boot space.

1992 Nissan Micra GS 1.2 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

A reliable and well engineered car

Faults:

Wiper Blade needed replacing.

Exhaust gone three times.

General Comments:

Basic car with little to go wrong.

Plenty of acceleration when you need it.

Excellent on fuel economy when you consider it is an automatic, would get 55-60 miles per gallon on a long run.

Strong brakes that grip the road well on stopping (harder to skid than other cars)

Excellent ergonomics for the size of car.

1992 Nissan Micra LS 1.0 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Ain't got no style, but won't let you down!

Faults:

Nothing in 26000 miles. Very durable.

General Comments:

No street cred!! But the quality of this car is as good as anything I've driven including Volkswagen/Audi.

No oil consumption and no engine parts needed replacement despite me not having the car serviced during my ownership, it was only given oil changes.

Switchgear is very good quality. Refinement poor, but surprisingly fast for 1.0, I had 97 out of it!!

This car has no style at all, I think I owned it 30 years too early, but it was the most reliable car I have owned. Zero defects.

1992 Nissan Micra LS 1.0 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Great car

Faults:

Just little things: rubber on the window handle came off, the fog light packed up a couple of months ago and had a bit of trouble to sort it out.

General Comments:

Economical, holds its value very well.

Not suited to motorways at all.

Seats surprisingly comfortable, very reliable, no big problems yet. I would definitely buy another one.

1992 Nissan Micra LX 1.2 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Reliable, economical and nippy

Faults:

Very little, had the sills welded recently, a new radiator at 104,000 miles, new door bolts on one door, otherwise just tires, exhaust and brake linings.

General Comments:

A very reliable car, still going well at 105,000 miles. Good acceleration for a small car and comfortable seats. Great visibility and tight turning circle so easy to park.

Only problems - very light so in high winds it doesn't hold road well when passing lorries on the motorway and the local dealer who I would never allow to service a car of mine again.

1992 Nissan Micra LX 1.3 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Pleasant car which defies its small dimensions

Faults:

Gear lever centering spring.

Tyres - finally had to replace original tyres, not because of tread but because they were cracking due to age.

Wiper blade.

General Comments:

Very impressed with the car but dealers stink. Took the car to Wessex Nissan in Bristol for an MOT and they said that a new silencer was required and wanted £160 for it or the car would fail. After phoning Kwik Fit and finding one for £39, I contacted Wessex and told them I would get the exhaust done at Kwik Fit and take it to be REMOT'D with them. They then told me that the car passed after all and that it did not need a new silencer. Also a friend bought a 2.0 Primera SLX from the same garage and later found it to be a 1.6. Trading Standards are now taking the garage to court.
