1987 Nissan Pintara GX 2.0 liter fuel injected from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

A nice reliable first, second car

Faults:

Distorted speakers.

General Comments:

I have only had the car for about 2 months, and so far so good. It is a nice big car, which is very easy to drive for learners like me. I love the r31 body, but there aren't many Pintaras around, so it is hard to get info on what cheap performance mods can be done on it.

All in all, a very nice car with a good price tag. I purchased mine for $1400.

1987 Nissan Pintara GXE CA20E 2.0 Litre Unleaded from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

Reliable car with tough body that's easy to drive and not slow either!

Faults:

Head gasket was leaking compression between the rear 2 cylinders

Heater core was leaking in cabin - big job to replace but I managed it

Thermostat was undersized so water pushed through gasket/leaked

Rocker cover gasket leaked oil down exhaust side of engine

Head is cracked at one of the spark plug holes on intake side

Fuel injector was leaking to atmosphere.

General Comments:

I love this car!

My sister had overheated the engine and killed it so it became my project, and with under $500 I brought it back to life and it has been reliable and great ever since.

For a 4cylinder car of this size, the acceleration is actually quite decent :) You just need to get used to using the kick-down switch and keeping your foot flat to the floor.

I usually get about 370km from about 50 litres of fuel... that said I drive with my foot flat all the time, so it's pretty good.

The front ball joints have failed and are loose, Nissan no longer stocks replacements - this means I cannot have a wheel allignment done as the car sits differently all the time.. I may be able to replace the entire transverse assembly per side though.

It makes amusing raspy rattle sounds (loose heat shield on exhaust) when taking the rpm all the way to 6000 :)

It's quite hardy too, it has been backed into stuff, driven forward into stuff and I have even bounced it off a concrete pole on the left side with little damage.

I have installed an immobiliser, central locking and alarm, making it even nicer to live with.

I love this car because I don't care about the body at all, and it is very reliable and easy to work on :) It sat under 10cm of snow for 24hrs and started first go when I got back to it :)

1987 Nissan Pintara GXE 2.0 from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

Good Reliable Car

Faults:

The odometer stopped working about a week after I bought it, speedo still works though. Overdrive/powershift option hasn't worked since I bought it. It isn't slow, but when you try to drive faster in it the rpm get to about 5-6 before changing gear making the whole car shake and it makes everyone look at you cause it is really loud. Hasn't got to good of a pull on hills have to use the kick down switch a lot to maintain speed on hills, but once using the kick down switch the car gains speed quiet rapidly for a 4 cylinder.

General Comments:

Good comfortable car, I use the kick down switch a lot to maintain speeds and to gain further speeds. The tyres are crap, but that is not the cars fault. starts first time every time never stalls, has some good get up and go for a 4 cylinder of its size and age. Compared to a Skyline it has excellent fuel consumption, but not as good as acceleration, but what do you expect it's a 4 cylinder. Not a car for someone who intends to race it unless you add a turbo.

1987 Nissan Pintara GX 2.0 litre unleaded from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

It's a beast!

Faults:

Hub cap fell off (my fault)

Locks are hard to open.

Fuel cap door doesn't lock.

General Comments:

As a first car it is very reliable and nearly a luxury to have. The interior is comfortable, it's easy to drive and there is plenty of room for cramming people in the back (and in the boot).

It starts first time every time, it looks great on the outside, runs smoothly and handles very well.

It's fun to drive, has some power, but one unfortunate is not the best acceleration which you can get with a smaller car, but still great speeds can be reached. There is also the added bonus it looks and sounds like a skyline, making you rather popular with the ladies without the extra fuel consumption.
