1993 Pontiac Bonneville SE (SLE package) 3.8L V6 from North America

Summary:

The perfect car for someone looking for size and gas mileage, but with a whole lot of pep thrown in

Faults:

I have really had no problems with the car yet. I've had it for a year, and about all I have done was changed the fluids. My Idle Air Control (IAC) started acting funny for me about 6 months ago, but is working fine now. After 13 years and 126K, of course, the leather on the driver's seat is a bit worn. The paint is also starting to show its age. Aside from the usual rock chips on the hood, there is a hazy spot about the size of the palm of your hand on the hood where the clear coat is starting to bubble up, but it you're not looking for it you can barely tell it is there.

General Comments:

Very reliable and comfortable car. I have put 6K on it in the past year, but now drive the car 30 miles a day. For a 3500lb 4 door sedan with a 6cyl, this thing flies. It hangs right in there with 5 speed Civics. If you ask it to, this transmission will run right up to 5500 RPMs w/o shifting like other cars. The inside is very comfortable and simple, the controls and gages are very easy to read and navigate, though my car does have the manual climate control, but Electric Climate Control (ECC) was offered in these cars. Since buying the car, I have replaced the original cassette player (still works like new) with a Pioneer CD player. It still has the stock speakers, though, and they still relay music as clear as glass.

Uniqe

Faults:

Since I restored my Bonneville The only problem I have had was a bad leak in my master cylinder. This happened at 86,000 Miles.

General Comments:

My Bonneville handles very well at 200hp.

However I'm still making improvements because I NEED MORE SPEED.

1993 Pontiac Bonneville SSE from North America

Summary:

Couch on Wheels LOL

Faults:

Fuel pump @ 315000.

Intake gasket @ 300000.

Brake lines cracked @ 315000.

General Comments:

I bought this car with high KS.

I took the chance, and now I'm glad I did. I bought the car for $1000 and have probably put 1500 into it.

The intake gasket went at 300000, so I bought the head gasket rebuild kit, which replaces every gasket from the head up.

With so little work, this car is amazing. I make it from school in Ottawa to Newmarket (Home) on $26 gas (439 kms).

The car has amazing power and rides sometimes too nicely (on long drives at night, be careful of falling asleep) LOL. If you have owned one, you will know what I mean when I say its like a "Couch On Wheels". The heads up display is also great.

The car also has one of the best engines GM ever built (3.8). In my eyes, this engine is better than anything else on the market.

1993 Pontiac Bonneville SE 3.8 litre V6 from North America

Summary:

Bottom line: mine has been an excellent buy.

Faults:

Replaced water pump at 160,000 kms. (It was still alive, but getting noisy.)

Front brake pads and rotors replaced with water pump.

Automatic door locks are now manual door locks.

Air conditioning not working, has to be refitted in Ontario to meet newer standards.

Otherwise, the car starts every time and is still humming along after 175,000 kms.

General Comments:

My grandmother owned it for ten years and drove it only to church on Sundays. I picked it up in mint condition and put another 100,000 or so kms. on it.

Good, solid car. I like the long, heavy appearance and the substantial doors. This Bonnie has no spoiler, and the sloped back end look has really grown on me.

Suspension and handling are on the soft side compared with my old Beemer, but the V6 is just fine for zooming down the expressway. Not a rocket, but ample passing power.

It's nice in the winter time, too. You can drive across the country in this car, I've done it.
