1980 Simca 1308 GLS 1.4 petrol from Norway
Summary:
Ahead of its time, but too slow
Faults:
New car, can't recall that anything went wrong.
General Comments:
My stepdad's car that also worked as a learner for my license. We had it over a summer. Surprisingly good interior space, good and modern to drive and good on petrol. Used it on a long family trip to the north of Norway. Very comfortable but under powered. Absolutely drove my stepdad crazy. Not too bad empty, but fully loaded the engine struggled. Before he briefly had a 242 with the 2.1 as a company car, that had 20 HP more but was much heavier, so in theory the 1.4 with 80 hp it should manage. But this engine lacked the Volvo torque and any incline he had to redline the engine to keep up with traffic. Sold it later that autumn and bought a yellow Ascona 2.0S. It would have worked with a 1.8 or 2 litre, this car would have deserved such an engine.
Unsure whether this car was labelled Simca or Talbot, they changed badge around this time.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Don't Know
