1985 Vauxhall Nova Sport 1.3 twin 40's etc petrol from UK and Ireland

Faults:

Rusty rear arches but what do you expect for a car of this era. Stickers cost a fortune to replace. Needs tuning every month. That's about it! Very reliable so far!!!!

General Comments:

The best Nova ever made with performance figures of 0-60 in 6.5 seconds in a 1.3 engine and a top end speed of 135 mph - it's an absolute scorcher. Bilstiens were later fitted to the car and it handles like a Mini now. Very few left now out of the original 501 made. It's recommended that the brakes be changed because the originals are not very good.

How many Sports are still in existence??? Is there a register or club??? I've had mine since 1987 & there is no point in replacing it cos what else is so cheap to run & so much fun to drive with the induction noise.

Reliability: 1 x front w brg, 2 x water pumps, 2 x head gaskets, 1 x set rear brakes (complete), I won't count front discs & pads cos it's the fun factor. Tyres can last between 3,000 miles (Yoki A008's) & 36,000 miles (Yoki A509's) or maybe I'm just getting old!!!

Now covered 127,000 & about to get a new head & cam.

Broken clutch cable (twice).

A very reliable and well built car that returns a decent fuel consumption even though it has twin carbs which really adds to the overall performance.

1985 Vauxhall Nova Merit 1.2 petrol from UK and Ireland

Faults:

I snapped a clutch cable. I owned it for a year and it was 10 years old at the time.

General Comments:

A great cheap reliable run-around. Pity it's not Japanese or I might have bought another one.

1985 Vauxhall Nova SR 1.4 turbo petrol from UK and Ireland

Faults:

Camshaft & new front pads, not much at all really until Turbo was fitted.

DON'T FIT ONE TO A 1.4 unless you have lots of cash to spend on mods, shattered clutch, 2 blown head gaskets, CVs, Driveshafts, Front Wheel bearings.

Very nasty all cus of a Turbo.

Was being a bit pedal happy though.

General Comments:

Very nice car to drive and quick for what it is, even before Turbo, the engines are really strong and can stand up to a fair old battering, don't know bout other 1.4s but mines got loadsa Torque, especially a low revs, and now with a Turbo, well it's NUTS!!

See ya.

Not one thing..

General Comments:

This car has been passed down the family for the kids to learn to drive in. It has been totally reliable, always started in the morning, wet or dry, and never once broken down. A wonderful car for a first time driver.
