2014 Volvo S80 T5 Kinetic 2.0 petrol from Belgium

Summary:

Trully brillant!

Faults:

Failure of the electronic throttle module (ETM) is common, causing jerking or locking of the throttle.

Failures in the CAN bus and control modules are frequent due to ground faults, affecting components such as cruise control and the horn.

Noises from the front are common due to wear on the control arms and bushings.

I also had some power steering fluid leaks, but nothing serious.

A car like this requires rigorous, regular maintenance, but be aware that repairs and spare parts are very expensive.

General Comments:

The S80 is a luxury sedan, comfortable, safe and spacious, standing out for its excellent seats and timeless design, very characteristic of a premium brand like Volvo (in the new millennium this brand greatly improved the aesthetic aspect).

What stands out most is its safety and comfort; it's a car made for long journeys (in my opinion, superior to several BMWs and Audis). The seats are excellent and exceptionally comfortable, made with top-quality leather (after more than 12 years, they're practically new; daily wear and tear hasn't affected them). The suspension is smooth and exquisite to drive, and the soundproofing is excellent. On the highway, it's incredibly comfortable; going 180 km/h feels practically the same as going 120 km/h.

The engine demonstrates its power and reliability; no problems to date. It has 241 hp turbocharged, the acceleration is brilliant, and although it's a family sedan, it easily exceeds 230 km/h. I'm not overly concerned with top speed, especially in a luxury sedan, but reliability is important, and in this respect, it proved itself to be a true Volvo, nothing to envy in the indestructible Class 2 and 3 models. The only thing I can consider less positive is the fuel consumption, although it's not excessive for a 2.0-liter engine.

In short, for a slightly lower price than a Mercedes or BMW, you can have a car that's just as, or even more reliable, with the same level of luxury and comfort, and that you can enjoy for many more years.

I believe this car will appreciate in value in the future.

2014 Volvo S80 D5 Executive Geartronic 2.4 diesel from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Nothing short of stunning

Faults:

A/C system developed a fault.

Oil leak (small, not serious).

Brake noise, need new discs (wear and tear).

Servicing + consumables.

General Comments:

S80 is a large heavy barge of a car from Volvo. Love these old executive cruisers. The car is amazing to be in, luxurious feel. Gorgeous to look at and great to drive.

My car is black outside and has a beige leather interior. Seats are the most comfortable I have sat in, and the wood effect is nice (if fake plastic ;)) but is never feeling cheap. Plenty of features on this model. Touch screen is small even by 2014 standards, but I still prefer analogue controls to use today.

2.4 diesel with the auto box is very fast. It also can manage 40 - 45 mpg, not great for diesel but good when you consider the weight and size and performance of the car.

Not cheap to buy and run, but well worth it if you want a classic solid executive car from Volvo, last of its kind.
