2000 smart fortwo - city coupe Passion review from Norway
"Cool car, with lot of faults.."
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Turbo faulted at 70.000km - replaced with an aftermarket Garret (not orginal) that worked MUCH better than the french original.
Roof leaked at rear gate.
Side doors leaked.
Right side lights burned out all the time.
Oil leak from the engine.
General comments?
Okay, it`s a small car, so you don`t expect it to ride like a Merc, or something with a longer wheelbase. It`s quite fun to drive, until you get used to it, and look at it as the daily car for "dad" (The wife drives a 98 Chevy Trans Sport 200hp with the kids, still got it!).
The gadgets in the Smart is cool, but there it ends. Service is expensive, almost impossible for DIY-mechanics like myselves (probably because I got larger hands than those french chaps..) It had a lot of faults, and it didn`t seem to stop having them.
A few "mods" were added to the car, thoug. A cold air intake with a scoop from K&N, changed most of the lights at the car to LED based. When the orginal turbo seized, I got a Garret turbo from Ebay (at 1/3 of the price the Smart dealership would rob from me..)
But anyways, I think it still is a funny little car, as long I don't own one myself...
