1998 Mitsubishi Montero LX review from North America
"Great SUV with SUV attitude/ride"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
I have had to replace the starter, the A/C compressor, A/C fan and expansion valve. The driver seat has split in two, but the other seats look fine.
Need more power for an SUV that size.
General comments?
The Montero Sport has been a reliable car. Living in Arizona, I have found that the A/C never blows cold enough when its over 110F outside. That's the only real issue that I have had with this truck. And as a truck, it rides like a donkey, especially when empty. It won't absorb most bumps like today's car based SUV.
Also, the engine is not very powerful. Pressing the accelerator hard causes the engine to growl loudly, lurch forward without really moving that fast. It always starts right up, and idle very smoothly even with 125kmi on the odo. This SUV feels like it can last forever and my plan is to find out how long that is.
After nearly 10 years, it is still a very good looking SUV with classic, rugged line. How many funny looking SUV (i.e XC90, X5, RX300, Rendez-Vous etc) can you say that about? It's a great value for its normal reduced asking price compared to other premium SUV.
