General comments?
The problem list has taken the shine off this car. In mitigation, however, I have not experienced any particular problems in the last year (10,000 mileage), but I still worry on long journeys if I'm going to be stranded.
Lack of support is serious worry for me. I find it difficult to get a second opinion on any mechanical problems.
I decided to ignore the suggested repair work (listed in the problems section) and my car went on to pass its first MOT in August 2000 (it failed it when I dropped it off at the Lotus garage!)
If the car fails its MOT in August 2001 because of the cat or steering rack (or any other major expense) I will sell it; it's not worth it!
The vehicle has many quirks (leaky roof, stiff window winders, boot release cable) that can be handled when you are familiar with the car.
It drives and handles very well (but not in the wet) and has great performance at legal speeds.
