1992 Audi 100 E review from UK and Ireland
"Safe and Solid Motor Car"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Door locks on both front doors have given trouble. A new locking mechanism was fitted.
The Brake discs were very worn on the car, although accepting its high mileage did not feel too bad having to replace them.
General comments?
A Very Safe and solidly built car.
These cars are fairly simply built, for example the engine is a traditional single over-head cam design. The thing is they are built well.
Not too hard on fuel, though performance could be better. The Audi 100 is a seriously heavy car for a 2.3 Engine to haul around.
The body is galvanised, so although the car is 10 years old It has no rust at all, and never will have!
Parts are fairly cheap as there are numerous specialists in pattern replacements.
The car is fitted with a Procon 10 safety system which actually pulls the steering wheel into the dashboard in the event of an accident. To me this sounds better than having an explosive airbag in front of your face.
Equipment levels are nothing adventurous, though the car does have the usual electric windows, mirrors, sunroof, central locking and ABS.
