1984 Ford Laser GL review from Australia and New Zealand

"Just take for a late night thrash in the forest, and you'll know what it's about - cheap and fun"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Basically, due to the age of the car - things began to give up the ghost.

Brake master cylinder replaced.

Distributor replaced.

Uneven wear on brake pads from hard hammering.

Driver's side rear view mirror replaced twice after female driver hit me in traffic when not checking her mirrors (caused panel damage as well - thank you very much) and when someone broke into the car only to find nothing and the steering wheel lock, so they broke the mirror (again.

General comments?

Before I got the car, both the head gasket and the exhaust manifold were replaced, so the car is practicaly mechanically sound, in fact the longitivity and reasonable stonk from the donk is the best point of the car.

It was in a major front prang before I had it as well, almost a write off, but a cheap repair bill, and easy/cheap to get at parts means that it is still on the road, slighty twisted chassis means car doesn't handle as well as it use too.

Handling is poor, it rolls, it sways, it's just so dissapointing because the engine just wants to give it so much more!

You may have noticed the Kilometers I've put on it, regular oil changes every 10 000km keeps the engine in healthy tune, it will then go on and on and on...

Of course the fuel efficiency is fit for any mieser.

Interior is well - old.

Drivers side mirrors can be bought new and only take 3 screws to replace!!!! Most parts can now be bought new due to the fact there are still plenty of them getting around.

Just take it to your nearest forest and rally it's little heart out! I love to cane it in the dirt, front wheel drive is great to spin the wheels forever around gravel corners. Just remember when to stop - unreal fun.
