What things have gone wrong with the car?
The tires needed to be replaced for about $1000, but this was no surprise.
Some of the wheels show dings and even minor cracking as a result of the limited protection offered by low profile tires. Drive carefully over irregularities.
The passenger window switch doesn't like putting the window up. The drivers side control works both fine.
General comments?
This car is a fantastic performance bargain. I have taken it to two racetracks (road course and 1/4 mile) and had a blast. In the 1/4, I beat a friends 440 Six Pack Cuda by over a half second (13.4 sec @ 106.5 mph). On the road course, I was hunting other cars (they started spacing me out further).
The ride is firm, but comfortable for long trips. I switched to Bridgestone RE730 tires and have been delighted with them.
It goes from 0-60 mph in under 5 seconds, runs under 13.5 in the quarter and still gets 17 mpg around town and 25 on the highway.
I had a 1993 LT-1 Vette before this one. The LT-4 engine (only offered in 1996 with the 6 speed) is a substantial upgrade and well worth seeking out if competitive performance is a factor.
